Do you view a Lewis vs Klitschko rematch was really necessary?

Depends on what you mean by necessary.

They did have a fight with each other (which neither man had prepared for).

Lennox did win by way of cuts.

Vitali was outboxing Lennox through most of the fight.

Without the cut, Vitali would probably have won. But cuts are a part of the sport, so Lennox holds a legitimate TKO over Lewis.

Despite Vitali's protestations, it was a good stoppage.

A rematch was clearly desirable, and in fact, necessary if Lennox was to remain champ.

Before he faced Vitali, he had not planned on retiring. And he would have been paid a career-high purse for the rematch, so there's little doubt that, despite Lennox having a very good win over Vitali, Klitschko did force him into retirement.

(Lennox was not shot, not even much past peak.

He was in decent shape. His extra weight (career high) was calculated and deliberate, as he wanted to be bigger facing the bigger Vitali.)

It would have probably been a great rematch and was much anticipated by fans of both fighters.

IMO, Lennox made the correct decision.

As of now, I rank him 3 or 4 alltime at HW.

And as of now, Vitali's not in my top 10.

VITLAY wanted to quit like a girl again, just like against Byrd.

The cornermen were shoving all kinds of stuff in his eye after that 6th round, as soon as they did that VITLAY knew it was all over and inwardly he was delighted. Once the fight was officially stopped he suddenly got brave again and threw his toys out of the pram, it was ****ing hilarious :rofl

So was the stuttering like a woman in the post fight interview, yeah sure VITLAY, Lennox never rocked you d-d-d-d-d-did h-h-h-h-he :nut

VITLAY was KD and KO'd, he was KD by Sanders in round 1 and KO'd by Maskaev and Pele Reid. He was also KO'd by a steroid test back in the mid 90's too, he's a china blooded ******.

    :huh:huh:huh
Maybe because lewis had the ability and nous to not get involved in too many hard fights. Maybe he also showed tremendous calm and had a great poker face when he was hurt and did'nt allow us or his opponent to sense that in fights.
Maybe he did'nt get injured because he was a superb specimen who looked after himself. Go and watch the Tucker fight to see Lewis fight with damaged hands. Watch the ninth round of that fight to see his fighting spirit.
The Bruno,Mercer, Briggs and Klitschko fights not hard enough for you like.
Chris Byrd was'nt on Lewis' radar, anyone with a clue knows that.
Who is GARY Mason? Have some respect and go and take a fu**in history lesson!

VK lost fair and square, durability is part of boxing, and VK lacks in that department, his losses by injury and cut are still legitimate losses.

That is because Vitali came to fight and Lennox had no choice but to get in a brawl or be KO'd!

I think the fact Lewis retired, instead of taking on another fighter answers the question about whether or not he was finished. As far as Lewis denying the fans the biggest HW fight since the 70's I disagree with that as well.

Certainly that title belong to Bowe, who clearly ducked a prime Lewis. Or to Tyson who paid Lewis $4M step aside money, off the top of my head, those would both have been bigger fights.

But certainly in terms of H2H fighters this was way up there. probably only second to Foreman- Ali, although I'm sure some will say the Holyfield - Bowe trilogy was also up there.

Doesn't matter, they fought once, when Lewis was at his worst and VITLAY was at his very best. VITLAY lost and got beaten up badly in the process.

If you think that means the CHALLENGER deserves a rematch then more fool you. The funny thing is in a few years time it'll only be Klitschko morons that question it, all the sane boxing fans will just say "yeah, Klitschko, he's that failure that Lewis fought, right?"

    Lewis TKO6 :deal
