That would actually be a good fight between two big guys with a ton of strength.

    Big Bob vs Super Nosa?

It's super Nosa... a World Champ

from The Manly Daily - 16th Dec 2010

FROM packing scrums alongside All Blacks captain Richie McCaw as a schoolboy to a world champion in the ring - Erik Nosa’s life has always been colourful.

Growing up in Dunedin, he attended Otago Boys High and played in the school’s First XV in 1998 as a bruising No.8.

A professional rugby union career beckoned, until personal reasons saw him prematurely hang up his boots following a brief stint in Scotland.

Needing a new challenge, he began kickboxing with his mates in a garage, inspired by magazines and iconic kung-fu movies.

The 31 year old settled in Manly five years ago, and soon began training with Nick Stone at Bulldog Gym in Balgowlah.

After winning a handful of state and oceania belts, Nosa decided to get out of his comfort zone.

Instead of the short commute to work out with Stone, he linked up with Glen Baragry at his Penrith gym.

“I suppose at the time it was a big call, but it has paid off,” the builder said this week with the world title belt in his arms.

“Nick is a great trainer, but I felt I had outgrown him.

“My brother (Aberaham) has been an enormous influence as well ... without him I wouldn’t have won half my fights.”

Last Saturday, at the lavish Chi Lodge in Dubai, was the chance for Nosa to snare what he has always yearned for - a world title.

Standing in his way was Iran’s Mojtaba Azadian, a three-time world champion defeated just twice in 51 fights.

Two rounds in, Nosa was in a daze, but not the state many at ringside expected.

A fierce right hand dislodged Azadian’s tooth, causing the favourite to hit the canvas.

    Victory, a dream realised.

“I have worked so hard to be where I am, but still can’t believe I am (super heavy-weight) champion of the world,” Nosa said.

“I love making my family proud.”

Nosa is doing so in spades.

They're leaving their call late if they are going to pull the plug on Bob's fight - a few days out and it's still listed in BoxRec mate.

Doubt if the Tongan's going to give Bob much trouble - he's lost his last 5!
