Interim light flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (27-0, 23KOs) was promoted to full world champion status at 108lbs by the WBA after Juan Carlos Reveco decided to vacate and move up to 112lbs.

Gonzalez, 23, a highly skilled puncher from Nicaragua who became the no1 minimumweight in the world blasting away Yutaka Niida in '08, captured the interim light flyweight belt the past October by 2-round demolition of top contender Francisco Rosas. Roman is a very fluid puncher, superb combination skills with very good power, him vs. Giovanni Segura is one of the best match-ups available in boxing. Let's just hope their unification will come off once Segura deals with Calderon in their rematch.

    Good for him. :good

I didn't realize the Segura-Calderon rematch was already a done deal. No matter, Chocolatito beats either. :D

Segura is a tough mofo, he's like a lower weight Margarito. The reason why I agree that Roman takes this (60-40) because I see him taking the fight on the inside cutting the distance and a good amount of power off Segura's punches who'll welcome a war, but will have to realize that Gonzalez is much better at short, compact punching. I do think Segura has a good chance boxing from the outside, but as I said, once he gets hit, the Mexican warrior will come out and that will be his undoing.

I just think Roman has the all-around better skill-set and is especially sharper offensively.

Margarito is a good comparison for Segura, although IMO that isn't a massive compliment.

Still, his concussive victory over the old Iron Boy was something to be proud of...and he'll most likely repeat it. :good

60-40 still seems a little bit generous to Segura considering he'd have essentially a puncher's chance here and Gonzalez hasn't shown any serious deficiencies in his chin.

Well, it's early to proclaim him the next Finito - but if there's anyone it's understandable to get carried away over, it's Gonzalez. :yep

I hope Roman gets to fight Solis or Nino now that Reveeco is out and Segura and Calderon are fighting it out. Those two will be great challenges for Roman. All currently do not have a scheduled fight. Let's make it happen!
