Yea, you pretty much hit what I was feeling dead on. I understand the fact that a messed up ankle, easily causes the obvious, messed up footwork & distractions etc. I just got a little annoyed, with that being an excuse that I didn't really want to hear, as I felt Yorgey had a good first round against Angulo, but once he got hit hard in the second went to ****, and his ankle started acting up apparently. Good Post David. And for the record, good luck in your comeback Yorgey.
That is a great outlook and the perfect formula for a fighter on the comeback trail. Personally, I think Yorgey is a well rounded fighter who does a little of everything well, EXCEPT, he is a nice guy, whereas guys like Angulo are natural born savages who come from a completely different world than one Yorgey knows. Yorgey does everything well, but nothing spectacular. And while he may have the heart to continue on, he does not have the physical attributes and natural talent to do so, not at a world-class level anyway. In short, I believe he lacks a much needed cut throat mentality and killer instinct. It's not something he can learn, it's something he has always had, or has never had, nor will he ever have.
You can never measure another man's pain. Only Yorgey knows whether or not he was fit to fight that night. He made his bed. And I agreee, despite what I said, Yorgey simply does not have what it takes to fend off Angulo, even at 110% with titanium ankles. It was only a matter of time before Angulo closed the distance and did what he does. Your frustrations are universal among boxing fans. Understood. And thanks for the kudos.
I respect each person's opinion - but the reality is that he last fought 16 MONTHS AGO! The whole "don't use excuses" distribe really only has relevance if he had brought it (the injury) up soon after the fight. The point of bringing it out now is that so much time has passed since the loss that the only thing people remember is the video footage. Harry lost - no doubt about it. But to fight as hard as he did without the use of what is considered the basis of all punching and lateral movement (the ANKLE) left him in Angulo's pocket - which is where he likes to work. The ankle injury was a large part of his absence from the sport - which has been a big question mark in the boxing forum world..."Where has Yorgey been??????" Without knowledge there is only speculation - I am here to bring facts to an otherwise factless business of internet forum postings. Take it for what you want - the proof will be shown in the ring. Enjoy the show.
Yorgey is going to get the snot knocked out of him if he fights anything remotely close to the top of the division. Stick fighting regional competition.
I hear what you're saying. And enjoy we will. I commend you on the thread and wish you the best in your journey up a steep road. For Yorgey's sake, please take any negative comments you've read as constructive criticism, rather than people taking blind shots at the guy and kicking him while he's down. I believe this thread may have had a little of both, assuming you don't think EVERYBODY who replied knows dick about boxing. Hopefully you find more of the former than the latter.
I appreciate your input and trust me there is nothing here that individually or collectively that we take either personal or to heart. I get what these forum's are used for and to be honest - my interest is to get Harry's story out there any way possible. Harry gets plenty of constructive criticism from his team and that is really the only people he listens to. He doesn't go online and doesn't read any press on himself. He cares about fighting and training. The rest is my job. So - to the haters...keep hating. To the supporters - thank you. To the undecided - watch and decide once you see where this all ends up. Thanks! Matt Cubbler Manager - Harry Joe Yorgey
Damn! I want to see Angulo back in the ring! He may not have the skills of Money or Sweet Pea but he sure can bang!
It's fans like you that we appreciate the most. Thank you for your indepth analysis and keen insight into the sport of boxing.
Harry is ready to get back at it and to prove to his critics that the Angulo loss was just a bump in the road. He is mentally and physically in the best shape of his career.
