When Foreman fought Shannon Briggs the WBU duly sent officials to Atlantic City, a debate ensued with the local boxing commision who didn't recognise the WBU and prevented their involvement with the bout

The WBU made a plea to Foreman to support them but he turned round and said he wasn't bothered as 'he never wanted their title in the first place' (or words to that effect)

Huge smack in the teeth for Big Jon and his cohorts

I believe the WBU even had Super CruiserWeight belt. Although no one ever contested it....

The WBU were always naff. Name, belt, website, champions, everything. I don't think they even had rankings.

Roberts, Stone, Farnell, Lockett, Williams etc never even won the British title. They must look at their own various shitty tinpot titles & weep :rofl:patsch.

They used 20 point must systems in some fights and you could win a decision if you got one vote and the two other judges has a draw. (It happened once, but I cannot remember which fihght.)

Nah. The public wizened up to that. Some small hall regional fighters may make a bit of money off one of those. But of course career wise they cant be taken seriously as they have no value.
The worst part of belts like the WBU. Is fighters like Ricky actually thought they were World Champs when they held those belts. And by extension his casual fans thought so too. Ricky is equally as guilty for perpetuating the sham as well as making easy money too.

He was easy to wind up, I used to send emails to the WBU criticising certain bizarre 'title' fights they had sanctioned (the Sanders v Czyz 'fight' was one in particular) Big Jon ALWAYS replied and could get very heated in his defense and we could swap correspondence for days

He used to refer to the WBC,WBA,IBF,WBO & WBU as 'the five fingers on one hand'

Nice enough chap though, certainly think he was was far more honest than some of the other organisations Presidents etc

Any organisation that could make Anthony Farnell a 'World Champion' TWICE would always have a credibility problem

Sanders-Czyz was a hilarious matchup & beatdown :rofl.

Remember how emotional Farnell was in his post-fight interviews after losing, then winning wbu Middleweight title fights against Ruben Groenewald. It would be interestng to hear how legit Farnell felt the title was.
