    PPV wise and in attendance. How popular was he ?
    I cant seem to find much on him.

    He had the WORST undercards in the history of PPV.

    I'd think that his numbers would have been at least decent at one time he was one of the most popular fighters in the game.

    His PPV sales were ****, mainly because he could have taken out his opponents in the first few rounds, instead Jones chose to do a "Mayweather", if you know what I mean.

    He was never a PPV star like Tyson or Holyfield

    It's interesting - he was very popular, but had problems with matchups, making it difficult to really market him.

    they are heavyweights. Only problem with Jones was that he fought in the division nobody knew about and care about. In 90s and early 00s the main division was heavyweights.

    Except Mayweather does about 4x the number of buys Jones ever did. I wonder what the difference between them is? Mayweather is certainly not more entertaining than Jones was, and Jones at SMW and MW was a big puncher. I could never figure out why he never really caught fire with the public.

    It's not just because of the heavyweights. Even during the Tyson era in the 80s, there was still room for Leonard, Hearns and Hagler. Why there wasn't room in the 90s for Jones, Hopkins and Toney I'll never know.

    As a matter of fact, people hounded him for fighting bums.

    He didnt market himself well or sell the matchups. I mean him and tarver had a big rivalry but they didnt sell it.Its not just the difference in talent between jones and his opponents either. They could have done better because Tarver is a good talker too.

    Look at PBF vs Gatti and vs Hatton, those guys never had a chance but they did their damnest to make it seem like they did. Look at Pac with Hatton and Margo, they were never going to win either but they hyped them up and sold well.

    Jones isnt a good talker but neither is Pac, it could have been marketed better and really I dont think HBO put the effort in with him that they did with Pac and Floyd either. They didnt do 24/7's then, they kind of just left the name "Roy Jones" to sell the fight itself which it did with boxing fans but not the general public
