Just reading boxing news piece on Giovani Segura. The article has a picture of giovani with all his belt with the ring belt hanging around his chest yet it doesn't mention he holds the ring championship but does mention he is the wba,wbo champion. Similarly boxrec list ever title under the sun except the rings one, I mean does anyone really care about the ibc or the iba. Also dan rafeal never acknowledges it preferring to do his own rankings and name his own champions. The ring has a transparent system name its board members, gives reason for its rankings, doesn't strip or force a fighter to pay to be called a champion. It also has history Jack Dempsey was the first fighter to recieve it after beating willard.Mike Tyson became the hw champ after taking it from spinks and calzaghe proved he was the best in thumping lacy to win it.look at the list of fighters that held it [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Ring_world_champions[/ame]. Why does the boxing media continue to give oxygen to parasites like the ibf, wba, wbc, ibo, wbo, iba but ignore a belt without bull****

How can you have a belt without mandatorys. You can win the ring title and have 25 defences agasint guys outside the top 500 but your still the Ring/Lineal champion.

Also the Ring is owned by a promoter.

Because it's a magazine title award.

If it was originally given to the linear champ it would have some credibility, but it wasn't, and as a result is little more than a gimmick.

mandos are a good theory but sadly not a good practice.gbp have no say in rankings which are done by a board also most belts might as well be owned by promoters

The latest Ring ratings which put Khan ahead of Bradley show the bias.

Ps I think Khan beats Bradley but that is beside the point.

    :good

Mandos mean titles are won and lost outside of the ring. Never a good thing.

The mere fact that it's a magazine and not a sanctioning body.

The ABC's aren't great, but I still recognize a champion who unifies two or more of their belts over someone given the nod by a magazine.

Like Beeston Brawler said, it's just a gimmick.

What influence do the promoter have over rankings? absolutely none. The Ring belt is the only one I have any respect for.

how are mandatories not good in practice? You realise Khan vs Maidana, Pascal vs Dawson, Marquez vs Katsidis were all mandatory fights. Bradley vs Alexander was ordered as a mandatory 18 momths ago.

How do you no GBP have no influence? Which belts are owned by the promoters?
