WBU made good fights & good charactors.

It was like the WCW of Boxing.

Jon Robinson was one hell of a big guy. I used to work at the Moathouse Hotel in Liverpool were Munro / Hyland who promoted the likes of Shea Neary, Peter Culshaw, Colin Dunne, Gary Lockett had their offices. Jon and his wife used to stay there whenever their was fights on in Liverpool.

Always found the pair of them to be very demanding and have bad attitudes tbh.

Jon was that big he was always in a wheelchair

BN once published a picture of Robinson at ringside with Munro/Hyland, he was wearing a lurid purple velvet suit and a pair of HUGE Elton John 70's style specs, was that a one off or did he always dress like that?

According to this Matt Skelton defended the WBU Heavyweight 'title' eight times!!

    Bet that's news to him

I think Big Jon presented his 'champions' with a gold ring after winning five title fights, I recall Rothmann getting one after beating Ashley (later on he dumped the title and went the IBO route like a lot of SA fighters)

Hatton wasted his peak years on that crap belt.

He was 38-0 by the time he fought a mid-thirties Tsyzu.

Maybe partially the reason why he left ****** as he didn't want to waste his time against terrible mandos like Calzaghe.
