Whats wrong with an opinion based title if generally the consensus opinion will generate the generally favoured number 1 fighter in the division

Its better than a belt of money and corruption ;)

PK is right you cant have rules on a ranking system of opinion because as has been mentioned ie. in the middleweights if Martinez beats 3 top 10 mws looking average doing so and antoher middle weight kos all the other top 5 fights. But also imagine if the difference in skill level between top 3 and the restof the top 10 is huge etc etc. there are simply too many variables to have a full proof system. The ring magazine is good at what it goes, gives a general fan opinion of boxing atm free from money that is all

    ALL TITLES ARE ****ING MEANINGLESS.

If everyone gets that into their heads they'll find a sport a lot more enjoyable.

look at there Super Featherweight rankings. Mzonke Fana vs Ricky Burns would be for the ring title even though anyone that follows the division closley ranks Uchyama as the no.1

Did you see the top 100 they put together. was hugley hugley bias towards American fighters.

...first off, what 'boxing media'?....second, the so-called 'boxing media' ignores the Ring belt because it means zippo...it's a fantasy title which is used by promoters and TV when it suits...

    Adios.

Has anyone ever owned the ring strap without having another?

It's exactly the same as all the others and is purely for t.v. promotion.

I agree with Flee, we should all be savvy enough to work out who the NO1 is.

The Martinez situation at the moment is a good case in point!!!

whats so bad about the Martinez situation? He was stripped by the WBC for not fighting his mandatory...who is ranked no.8 by the Ring at Middleweight. Zbik was a worthy challanger if you go by what the prescious Ring rankings claim.

I was more dissing the WBC in that post. They are all there for TV Promotion and are largelly as bad as each other.

Whenever I tell a layman that I am going to a fight the first thing they ask is 'is it a world title fight'.

This is the era that we live in, because the Networks want every fight to be a 'weold title' fight this is why we have all these shitty belts.

Luckily large brained fans like myself can see through the hype and can generally tell who the man is in each division.

What networks?? HBO never mention the alphabets in there broadcasts. Instead of backing a WBC defence from Martinez agaisnt Zbik they forced him to defend agaisnt a Light Middleweight.

Their light-heavy weight title is not...

  13. I like the Ring belt. At least it attempts to bring some sort of integrity to the act of crowning a division champion, unlike the garbage alphabet titles. It would be great if there was a media blackout of these organisations, they would practically disappear overnight. One of the low points for me was when the WBC banned Arreola, what a crock of ****.
