By Jake Donovan - The race is on to which will actually occur by 2012: the end of the world, or a showdown between unbeaten featherweights

Bob Arum is playing it as if rumors of the destruction of mankind as we know it couldn’t be further from the truth. The Hall of Fame promoter seems to be in as much of a hurry to bring to fruition the aforementioned matchup as he was a year ago – which is to say, not at all.

The promise around this time last year was that fans would just have to sit and wait until the undefeated duo cleaned out the

    superstars.

Only then will the collision course be deemed a big enough event for their promoter to pitch to the folks at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The vision for this showdown is a stadium event, not one that settles for a casino backdrop just for the sake of getting the two in the ring together.

If and when he pulls it off, Arum will have created even more space between himself and whoever is regarded as the next best active promoter in the

    today.

For the moment, the question isn’t so much when or if he pulls it off, but whether or not there really is a plan set in place for the two to first clean out the featherweight division.

Juanma is the real deal. he is so impressive. He has everything, all the makings of a heavy duty world class champion. Right hook is short and nice. He is getting more confident his last fight was a big statement.
too complete for Gamboa at this level. He should school Gamboa.

And yes, none of those fighters has the talent Gamboas posses, IMO is a toss up but the more they wait the less chance this fight will happen while on their prime or unbeaten, too many flaws and not the best of chins, one is going to get KO, it almost happen to Juanma against Mtagwa, then he was dizzy against Concepción and hurt against a smaller fighter past his prime Marquez, Gamboas doesn't escape this either, when he goes out he really goes out, no defense at all.

There is a bigger chance someone spoils the party before these two square off.

Top Rank is stupid. They could be really trying to make exciting fights with John or Hasegawa...I just dont knwo what the **** they're doing. Meanwhile, FW stagnates.

Well if they are not going to face each other, a least give them some tough competition, I don't know about Solis, he has two loses Pac 8th round TKO and Cristobal Cruz Dec. not too many recognizable names in his resume.

You guys are funny and stupid, Top Rank is in the business of making money and if they feel that waiting one more year will help them make an aditional 10 million dollars in the fight why not wait. Promoters dont care or listen to the fans they listen to their pockets and always do. But like somebody already said they are betting on this fight happening and somebody could spoil it for them.
