Ever wondered Martinez repeatedly tagging Pavlik's face with hard, sharp accurate shots maybe contributed to the cuts? :think The fight was EZ to figure out if you cared for the details. Martinez controlled the fight on the move, then Pavlik got into the fight for a couple of minutes and scored that questionable knockdown, then Martinez changed up tactics and opened up with crazy amount of shots in front of Kelly that were so effective they ripped apart Pavlik's face. I guess you can say people forget how Roy Jones did before he got KTFO by Tarver. But I say: it's called boxing.
Im a huge Cotto fan but honestly I just dont think so. I think Martinez has the speed, pop, size, determination, activity, and chin to handle Cotto pretty well. just imo. Would be a good fight at 154 though if it happens, good win for Martinez as far as name recognition goes. For Cotto though, I would focus on Mayorga, Margarito, maybe Angulo, Cintron. Even Williams might be a stretch but it would be a great clash that one, Cotto has a real shot if Williams comes in cold like he can sometimes. But I think hes a bit overmatched when it comes to Martinez.
Martinez will be comfortably bigger then Cotto come fight night. He will be the bigger puncher without question, he will have the better chin, he will be just as fast, he can fight hard for all 12 rounds and will give Cotto no quarter and wont be discouraged, and I dont see how someone can not think Martinez's wouldnt overtake Cotto down the stretch in the championship rounds, and with the power to seriously hurt Cotto and the speed to catch him, doesnt bode well for Miguel imo. Cotto sticking to his jab and boxing may be his only chance IMO, but imo thats only at making it fairly competetive. Nothing overrated IMO at favoring Martinez over a cotto whos seen better days and is above his best weight while Martinez is at his best and would be fighting at his best weight.
So you think cotto, mayweather or pacquiao can beat martinez... doubt any of them cant.. martinez is too big for them and has a lot more power than all of them.. :hat
He is a bad style matchup for cotto and bigger as well. Terrible fight to take because cotto is working on improving with steward and you know after one big ass kicking steward likes to drop them, he wont beat martinez even with steward and steward will probably leave his ass after another loss
I don't fancy his chances. Plus, I don't actually think Cotto has been the same since Margarito and Martinez just may have too much for him at this stage of his career.
Yea thank god he started bleeding. It was a miracle. Its not like those gashes were caused by punches. It was also a miracle that Martinez landed more punches than Pavlik otherwise he would have never won. Look at Martinez record in the last 4 fights. Cintron Williams Pavlik Williams He won all those fights regardless of what the records say. He was the smaller guy in all those fights along with fighting them he had to fight the corrupt HBO commentators along with HBOs judges. Wasnt he the underdog in all those 4 fights?
Martinez is in no way overrated. His loss to Marg was very early on in his career, and given Margarito's future accomplishments within the sport and the whole cheating scandal, you can't exactly defame him too much for his defeat. Again with Williams, he was drafted in on very short notice against the most feared man in boxing and lost via incredibly close and controversial decision. His resume is strong, win or lose, an individual who's resume consists of the names he has simply has to be branded as strong, and his recent devestation of Pavlik and Williams quite blatantly display that he is of elite level. A level which might not quite be as accomplished as that of Pac or May, but he is widely considered amongst the boxing community to be the next most likely (next to each other), of beating either of them. Cotto of course has a chance of beating him, but it is only a slim chance. I personally think Martinez will destroy him. It'll be similar to the Pac fight only he'll be eating harder punches and will lead to a late round TKO.
at 154 i owuld like to see it....i think with Emmanuel in his corner he has a better chance now days.....if he can work that body he should fare pretty well. I dont see anything that says Martinez will be hard to hit to the body. Martinez doesnt exactly shy away from physical fights and i think he will give Cotto ample opportunities to his body. Cotto has a great Jab and great body work when able to use these tools he is dangerous.
I'm afraid I'd still favor May or Pac in a fight against Martinez. He is very good, but a lot of people have been overrating him after his win on Williams, which is well deserved, but it doesn't mean he's GOAT all of a sudden. atsch
Martinez would put a beat down on cotto imo. This version of Martinez beats any version of cotto in my opinion. To strong, big, disciplined and talented. Not to say I dont rate cotto because I really do, Maravilla is just a level above prime for prime in my opinion.
