Frank Warren not happy with Dave Coldwell

Good to see Boxing News standing firm in the face of pressure from Britain's leading promoter.

 

Was the article in some way negative towards DeGale?

I can fully understand why Warren is upset. I mean. you'd never see Frank write a bad word about fighters who aren't his own in his Sun column

 

if anything it was complementary of him and they way warren has managed him.

 

Frank Warren is a terrific promoter but he is even better at being a hypocrite.

 

im so glad khan left him and didn't call to tell him.

 

I read the column and there was nothing in it that would merit Warrens overreaction.I can`t believe he is so sensitive and hypocritical, when his column bashes his rivals every week.

 

Well it was our most-read article by some distance last week so clearly there was an audience for it. The reaction is only inevitable if the people involved take the piece out of context. It was actually very pro-DeGale and certainly not anti-Warren.

 

Little unfair but I take your point. Warren didn't ask for the article to be scrapped, just for his response to be included. I felt that his response was a bit unfair and should be scrapped but we ultimately decided it was better for everyone to take the whole thing down.

 

I may be going mad but i think i do side slightly with Warren in this particular situation i think if Flex had written the exact words that DC had and put it on the website it probably wouldnt have elicited the same reply from Warren

It is the fact that DC is a trainer manager promoter in the business and allied to the Groves/Hayemaker camp. Its the same in any industry if if a more junior writer started going to Flex i think you should use your metaphors more imaginatively and put a bit more hyperbole in your writing he would have every right to tell him where to shove that advice!

 

First of all more 'junior' writers do criticise me and I never tell them to Foxtrot Oscar _ we are all still learning. Secondly why do you assume I put anything other than Coldwell's words up? He writes the column, I don't take it over the phone, he sends me the word doc and I sub it for grammar only. I didn't try to make it more contentious and it wasn't controversial – did you read it?

 

It was a team decision, not an individual one. After speaking to Dave and thinking more about it, I felt strongly that we'd made a mistake in including the comments and suggested we remove them today. Then we decided to remove the whole thing.

 

I did read it yes sorry you misunderstand me i wasn't saying you have changed anything that Coldwell had written i was making the point that the reason Warren may be justified in feeling aggrieved was because it was written by somebody else in the industry and because of his ties to Hayemaker/Groves he could be considered direct competition. What i meant was if you personally had penned an article about what your opinion on Degale's career path should be i dont think it would have drawn the same criticism from Warren as an article that has been written by Dave Coldwell

The point i was making about the "junior" writers may not be accurate i understand but it is certainly true in any industry that if somebody who is not as qualified as you starts to tell you how they think you should do your job you would be entitled to feel that they are not in a position to criticise.

My analogy earlier on in this thread seems right i cant envision Alex Ferguson telling Arsene Wenger what cups he should go for this year or how he should set out his team for his next game.
