Why was Calzaghe beating Lacy considered such a big win for Calzaghe?

Try telling that to the people that want to call him a hype job then turn around and hype him up because he fits the bill of being one of Calzaghe biggest wins...Thats all I'm saying...At least you were open enough to answer logically in which I applaud you for.:good

It was considered a big win because Lacy was starting to emerge as the best fighter at 168. At that point there were no real challenges to Calzaghe and Lacy's impressive run towards stardom made this fight inevitable.

Calzaghe beat him in impressive fashion to solidify his status as the best fighter at 168.

    Very Good win.

Calzaghe vs Lacy was about even odds, yet Calzaghe beat him like he should've been paying 1/10

so obviously Calzaghe was alot better than people thought he was

Who in Britain said Lacy was a hype job before the fight?? Most people thought Calzaghe would win but recognised Lacy as a dangerous fighter so your premise is COMPLETELY wrong. :hi:

:patsch Are you honestly asking me this dumbass question when you and several other British poster have been hard on about how most American fighters are hype jobs...Dont try to play dumb now and dont try to use this lingo when it suits your arguement...Dont get me wrong..It should be a good win for Calzaghe given that Lacy was top tier of the 168 division and given that the odds favored lacy...I'll give you that much, but dont go around here trying to say he's a hypejobe then turn around and say its one of Joe's best win...So which one is it...and I'm directing this to you because its on record and well documented that you have some type of bias against the American fighters...So if you're always calling up hype jobs why try to backtrack now and big up Lacy for Calzaghe when you've been put on blast for your dislike for the us...Simple quiestion.

Because Calzaghe is so bad that beating a bum like Lacy is a big thing.

Was it really a big fight? It was a unification, but in the weakest of divisions at the time.

Lacy`s fan group at that time are like very bad friends. They are with him and praising him to the skys when things went good, but turned their back on him and called him **** when it went bad! No wonder he never made it back

Lacy was promoted by USTV as the best fighter in the world, strongest, etc., they gave Calzaghe no chance, Calzaghe was the underdog. I was not surprised that Calzaghe beat him though.
