Who would have won the battle of the Joey's? !5 rounds for Giardello's middleweight title in '65.

tough call Red.......I tend to pick Giardello, just because he was the greater fighter.....But Archer´s precision, defensive skills, and patience would be a stylistic trouble for Giardello in my opinion......And Giardello never faced a fighter like Archer.....
And in 65 (maybe I´m wrong) Giardello was slightly past-prime......

Very good call..based on the facts...Joey was sort of in decline..even as champion..he had the moxie to outfox Carter but Archer may have been a nightmare for him...as would Nino Benvenuti, who was also mentioned as a possible foe for Giardello in '65.

Its funny but Archers people tried hard to get Giardello in the ring and J G's people turned him down. I think this would play out to be a tough fight...Giardello was the better puncher but Archer had solid whiskers....Archer may edge this one but these guys could have split a few

Close fight. I would favor my guy Joey G(no bias) in a close decision. Archer was durable and G had good power but I don't think he's taking him out.

At that point in time, I would give a slight edge to Archer.

The style was wrong for Joey G. Giardello could outbox the slugger, but the boxer always gave him problems. Definitely favor Archer in this one. Again, just a matter of styles.

Thinking about it longer I would favor Archer for that time.

This would have been an interesting fight involving two cagey counter punchers. I would give this one to Archer due to his hand speed and silky boxing skills, but Giardello gets in some good shots with that right hand. Archer by a close decision.
