Why was Calzaghe beating Lacy considered such a big win for Calzaghe?

How many Brits on here were saying before the fight Lacy was a hype job? Simple question.

 

Not too many if I recall correctly, though I remember Max Moleyneaux predicting that Calzaghe would outclass Lacy and getting roundly slammed for it on the gf.

 

google "Calzaghe vs Lacy Predictions" and read some of the articles...that should explain why

 

i think it was a case of lacy being hyped up alot (also the favorite going in) and the fact that it was joe's first unification.....kind of went to people's heads.

Lacy would have gone on to be quiet good if he didn't run into Joe.

He wouldn't have beaten Kessler but he was good but Calzaghe utterly broke him mentally and he wasn't even 1/5 the man he was going into that fight after.

 

Lacy was a great fighter(ask the Americans), the next mike tyson!!!

How do you work that out? Lacy was arguably Americas best SMW of the decade, its debateable between Lacy and Mitchell and Lacy has a win resume comparable to Butes

Why should Calzaghe have been expected to travel?
Your point is rubbish as Calzaghe after beating Lacy beat Kessler the next best SMW and went up to LHW and beat the LHW champ

 

Who are you reffering to that hasnt fought top opposition?
Sturm has a very good MW resume with 14 world title fights and wins over Schenk, Castillejo, current IBF MW champ Sylvester and other fighters like Lorenzo, Masoe, Cherifi, Velazco, Varon, Gevor, and is fighting R Hearns next. Now not all of those fighter are big names or have great resumes but do you consider that worse than Pavliks MW resume of Taylor, Miranda, Locket, Rubio, Espino? I dont think its any worse overall, and they arent all of Sturms MW title victories

 

Lacys win resume is comparable to Butes who was recently rated the #1 SMW
