just wanna see ur guys thoughts on whether roy jones jr deserved the beatings he been taking lately now, i am a huge roy fan and havent seen anyone as giften and physically able to do what he did in the ring however, alot of people talk of how he ducked big names its no secret he hid behind having to defend his title against the no1 contender or he'd be stripped of one of his billions of belts, and would then talk of how he is willing to fight anyone but if we look at it he had collins eubank calzaghe benn and im sure a few other who were much more deserving of shots at roy than rick frazier, david telesco, richard hall and clinton woods now not that these are tomato cans, well hall kinda was, but he could have had a much better resume no doubt he already does have a great resume but anyone else think after avoiding big risk fights, and raking in $5million easy pay days he deserved to be ko'd twice, have calzaghe embarres him at the garden, have green make a fool of him and hopkins make him look like ****
WTF... no one deserves to take beatings... are you an absolute ****** or something? What a complete pile of nonsense
Youre right, probably the worst fall off ever, shame too, probably my fav all time fighter. But no he doesn't deserve beatings, no one does, it's just a brutal sport, and thats the way it goes some times.
if he chooses to keep getting in the ring when he's so far past it then yeah, he deserves to get the beatings he's getting. It's kind of like a person who decides to run out in front of a speeding truck deserves to get run over by that truck.
Nobody deserve to go through what boxers go through at the end of their careers and then end up with health issues after their careers are finished. But honestly Roy shouldve gave us a lot more when he was on top. He preferred to fight nobodies and win a lot of money and pump his chest and scream he was the best. There were a lot of fights he left behind that he shouldve gave us. :hat
No one does, but sadly in boxing it's hard to walk away from such a passionate sport. Especially someone as talented, and competetive as he is/was, he will always feel like he can beat the up and comers.
Jones is the best athlete I have seen in a boxing ring , if he would have retired after Ruiz we would seriously be discussing a top 10 great, but like 99% of fighters he went on too long and now Roy will be remembered more for his loses than his wins. Jones in 98 / 99 was absolute magic.
He does't deserve a beating for that, but its kind of fitting how his career unfolded in the end, cause now there is this perception, either you think at his best he was the GOAT, or that after earning his stripes, he just rid the coat tails of his early success and fought guys who had a million and one chance of beating him, and that when he did finally fight someone again, he got knocked out. I've heard someone claim that Roy always knew he had a glass chin, that, that was way he fought as cautiously as he did, carefully selecting his opponent, not saying I believe it, but.....
