Was Mayorga past his best days?? And would the Mayorga that beat Forrest have done better against DLH ? An answer for 147 n 154 plz.
Mayorga was a bit past his best but so was DLH. Honestly, this plays out the same way any time at any weight. DLH has too good a chin for Mayorga to knock him out with something stray and wild, and far too much class to be outboxed despite Mayorga's skills being a bit underrated (along with a completely different style and temperament than Forrest, who also had more class on paper but completely freaked the **** out when confronted with Mayorga's awkward aggression in person...DLH would be cool as a cuke in the face of that awkward aggression, just as he was when they did meet).
Mayorga's preperation didn't go well & it was worst he'd ever looked. Still, Oscar's dazzling speed & skills would always exposed Mayorga's defensive deficiencies, only slightly less horrifically.
This my favourite Oscar fight. This shows what happends when skills meet a mouth. Great way to finish . I miss Oscar , fought everybody.
mayorga looked pretty good actually in that fight (for himself anyway) , but DLH is a bad matchup for him. rock solid chin, and better in every other area. Mayorga gets in trouble when the other guy can take his shots and dish it back.
Mayorga is very confusing to work out for all but the very best fighters. DLH was such a fighter, and so knew exactly what to do. Mayorga didnt prepare well for the fight, but it would have made no difference.
