I agree with this.

Another thing to take into consideration is Cotto's body punching. Mayorga doesn't take it to the body as well as he takes it to the head. Tito hit him to the head with everything in the kitchen sink, and this was at 160, but hurt him just about every time he went to the body. Eventually it took a left hook to the body to finally get Mayorga down. Forrest also hurt Mayorga to the body in the latter rounds of their rematch.

If Mayorga is able to counter Cotto effectively when Cotto tries to go to the body, then that changes things a lot.

 

I find it funny how people mentioned Cotto's "glass jaw" yet forget that Tito Trinidad has been down more times in his career than Cotto has and yet never found himself down at all.

He hardly tagged Mosley with a damn near 20 pound weight advantage on fight night. Bullying? Mosley fights like dog **** going backwards and yet managed to survive this way. Cotto is light years ahead in this department.

Cotto wins. Safe money is UD. Late TKO isn't out of the question.

Mayorga is weak on the body and his ring IQ is about as high as margarito's...cotto might not be in the same elite level as a prime tito/dlh/ssm but in his prime he's def better than all 3 in the body punching department

 

it seems like everyone agrees that mayo would win.... people tend to look at mayo now and say he is washed up ( which he probably is ), but the mayo from 147 was a beast... jsut you tube it and look at the difference in speed, hunger, determination.... i still think this will be a decent fight... my pick is a SD... not sure who wins because cotto is shot too..

 

Miguel is going to have to pace himself...mayorga is already saying he will win by ko on the 4th so automatically you know he's gona come out guns blazing...all cotto has to do is stay behind the jab and bring the fight past the 5th/6th round cause mayorga is gona be swinging like his last paycheck is on the line...

Mayorga ko 7, the same problems that arised in the Margarito fight will occur but only 10x worse, Cotto doesn't have the power to keep Mayorga off him, people seem to think Cotto has Trinidad type power, when the truth is even at 140 Cotto was used to get ko's by accumulation. Not to mention Cotto has a shaky chin, and is easily hit.

Even now this is a bad matchup for Cotto, I can't wait to see how this fight plays out.

Exactly, I know Cotto is a good dude but as far as boxing goes what has he done to deserve this praise, besides beat an old Mosley (In a fight that a felt he lost by btw).

 

I am shocked by how many people are picking Cotto by KO/TKO.


IMO its either mayorga by stoppage or cotto UD. I cant see cotto stopping mayorga at all. Remember mayorga was stopped at higher weights by Tito and dlh, he was well past it when he fought both and he took a god damn ass kicking by tito before being finally stopped by body shots, no way cotto stops him at 147

 

yeah 'prime cotto' is always overrated it seems. He is a nice guy as you say but he was not on the level of the guys just before him like dlh, forrest, mosley tito ect. his best win is a close one against an older mosley, thats it. He is a decent fighter but he aint on their level
