What sort of things do they do on the day of the weigh in to make the weight? Have a ****? ****? Run? Steam room?
Also how much of an affect can it have on a boxer going into the fight if they have been tight at the weight and are consistently struggling to make the weight?

Cut their toe nails, laxatives, sauna also pretty much anything else to lose water from their bodies.

    Dehydrate.
Not sure on the effects it will have the next day. I'm guessing not too much as they rehydrate and get some good sleep, get all their nutrients back etc. I'm also guessing that the effects of struggling to make weight over long periods will have more of an effect on the training camp more than the actual fight, but it's a domino effect, you have a bad camp, you have a bad fight.

everybody is different on how they make the weight, some train some run some cut out fluids the day before so they have a dry weight. this would be for day before weigh ins

if you have done the weight over time i don't think it is so much of a problem when it comes to fight time. the real problem occurs when fighters leave it to the last minute and strip the weight off by starving themselves.

It just occurs to mr that draining your body 3-4 times a year can't be brilliant. I mean a lot if boxers make weight, but then at some weight classes put on 14-15 pounds. Does such weight gain not negate certain attributes a boxer would have at a certain weight such as speed etc?

No because there not putting on fat like you and I would if we gained a stone all of a sudden. They boil and dehydrate down to make a certain weight and then after the weigh in they will ear **** loads of carbs, sugary drinks and red meat to give them energy and build them back up to there natural weight.

When you hear about a boxer gaining 15lbs after the weigh, its most likley there were only at the low weight for a few days, perhaps even hours.

i've been told alex arthur put on nearly 20 pounds after the weigh in for the nigel wright fight and he looked terribly sluggish on fight night.

they are only ever on their weight for the couple of seconds they are on the scales. if you watch close they always grab for fluids when they step off.
on the food they don't go for sugary drinks but more rehydration and mineral replacement drinks. this is to replace the fluids they have been drying out.

See i have noticed this a few times with some boxers.
I just find it interesting how they make weight, and how being tight to it and struggling and then really pilling it on affect boxers. It seems they are all affected in different ways.
Froch looks like a lhw, but it seems he makes weight easy and gain about 12 pounds before the fight. He copes well with this. But look at some guys on the boundaries of various weights. Look at Peter manfredo. I don't know how he copes making weight, but he looks far more effective at middle than smw.

I guess thats what there supposed to do but allot wont. I no Calzaghe would get through a couple of fizzy lucozades and a giant dairy milk after a weigh in.

Who is well known for struggling to make weight? Obviously hatton was a silly twat in-between fights, but who else shows between fight behaviour similar to hatton? Can sustained behaviour like hattons affect a boxer long term, or is it down to each individual?

I didn't know Froch was up at around 180 on fight night, I thought he was barely over 170lbs.

Kessler I could understand, he always looks the best part of a division bigger than the opponent, how he makes 68 I'll never know.

Blowing up in weight and boiling down will eventually catch up with you, but if you take the weight off gradually with a proper diet plan, including drinking lots of fluids the effects will be much lower.

There's a difference between Hatton losing 40lbs over 12 weeks to Riddick Bowe losing a similar amount in six, of that I'm certain.

Hopkins always seems to be able to swing between divisions. I presume this is due to him living the "life"
Didn't realise froch was at 180!!!
