Exactly. You can see it in this thread, the inability to accept the CENTRAL IMPORTANCE of punch resistance in boxing, and the tendency to attack those who point this out. A lot of modern boxing fans, I think, are blind hero-worshipers, and they take offense at their heroes flaws being criticized. Then you have those who seem to think that punches that knock out weak-chinned fighters would KO anybody, despite it happening multiple times to the same fighter. This is, of course, the "that punch woulda KOd anybody" crowd. This is why the Chincheckers are so necessary. The work that I, Rico, 46and0, Headbanger and others do here will always be needed, as long as their blind glass-jaw deniers and fanboys trying to promote unprovable myths like "that punch woulda KOd anybody"
My point is,if thats the case, Whya aren't there jab-checkers?, hook checkers?, foot-work checkers?, speed-checkers? etc. Whats the fascination with the one area of a fighters make up that they cant fix. And its true if a top fighter catches you bang on,most guys will get knocked especially as you go up in weights. You get the odd freak like Wayne McCullogh,or Librado Andrade, but on the whole, big puncher hits you clean, you go down. Many of the greatest fighters have been down and many have been knocked out. Roberto Duran was BRUTALLY knocked out by Hearns. Does that make him a glass jawed joke or fraud????
It is always nice with people that have found their quest in life. But over to the subject. I have never trained boxing above amateur level, so I wont assume that I sit on the absolute truth. But can it be suggested that the importence of good timing and cleanly connecting punshes sometimes are underestimated when chinns are beeing discussed? If so, that could help us explain why a guy like Khan gets flattened against Prescott and then keeps standing against Maidana. It also help explaining why an ATG like Lewis suffered a couple of humiliating KO-losses, because that guy normally seemed hard as nails. :think
Would a boxer who had to have his lower jaw removed due to mouth cancer have an advantage and could he beat Mayweather?
Yes,that would be exactly what im doing. ...Well,not so much defending as saying it makes far more sense for a man to be hit by one of the most powerful p4p punchers in the world,on his knees, defenseless, being knocked out, than the opposite story. That being he got hit with a full force punch by Arthur Abraham and was so RIDICULOUSLY tough, that he could take that punch and then "decide" to go down, and throw a fight that he was easily winning. That would mean he probably has the best jaw in the world,BAR NONE! So which is it?
A joke to those who don't fight. Fighter's respect anyone brave enough to get in there, ESPECIALLY if they know they have a glaring weakness like a susceptible chin/stamina/, cut/swell easily. If given a choice of attributes, everyone in their right mind would choose not to have a glaring weakness. It's the truly brave ones who do possess a glaring weakness and still fight. Anyone here who knew they could not take a hard accurate punch wouldn't have the balls to fight because of their knowledge of such.
Agreed. Saying a fighter is a joke because he doesnt have a good jaw, is like saying a guy is a joke because he cuts easily.
Well said, it can't be both ways. He can't have a glass jaw, and have faked it. It goes against itself. I applaud you with trying to argue this point but it's unfortunately a waste of time. I can guarantee you that NONE of these "chinchekcers" have ever boxed competitevly and have no idea what getting hit by an 8 or 10 ounce glove really feels like.
Fanboys? Calling the kettle black there my friend? You literally joined last month and all of your posts are chin related and suck up to the "chincheckers" like a ****ing sheep. You even type your words exactly like them. Look whos the real fan boy.
Thing is the "that punch would have koed anyone" brigade and the "chincheckers" are on the opposite ends of the spectrum and they're both extreme. In fact I think these so called "chincheckers" are pompous arm chair warriors that can't see the truth through their own air of undeserved self importance. They've become as fanatical as the deniers they set out to govern and balance out. The ability to take a punch is a physicality that can't really be changed. A fighter should be measured on things they can reasonably control. Chin and Punching Power are God given attributes that can't really be changed. KO's are part of boxing and losing a fight by KO is something that could happen to any fighter who's ever laced up. Nobody is exempt. I suppose it's a novelty having them around. But I'll take their opinion with a grain of salt.
Are you a cut-checker too?? I mean judging someone for a bad chin is no different to me than judging someone for being prone to cuts.
