Cant believe so many people think Cotto would stop a prime Mayorga

Its not even a given that he will stop an old, inactive, shot Mayorga..... (It wouldnt surprise me if he did, but its not a foregone conclusion)

The fact that Cotto WOULD without a DOUBT be boxing off the backfoot in this fight would ensure him winning by decision, if winning at all.

No way, in 10 fights (exaggerating, but you get my point), does Cotto stop a 147lb, prime Mayorga.

    The poll results are absurd.

I'm guessing most of General has already forgotten Mayorga's run at 147.

Six Heads, two wins over Forrest, and I thought he got jobbed against Stinks. Not bad at all.

Because polls on ESB usually become popularity contests, and Cotto is one of the most beloved fighters of our time.

Cotto is one of my fav fighters too, and of all time, but the fact of the matter is Mayorga is a horrible matchup for him.

I would have to go with Mayorga. He hit hard and was very awkward with his punches coming from all types of angles. His chin was granite at 147. I mean he pulled a Nate Campbell and did not fall or get hurt from Forrest. The Forrest who beat a prime Mosely not once, but twice. The same Mosely that many posters say would have beaten Cotto if they would have both been prime.

Mayorga was not just a wildman. He won a title at 147 and 154. He went where the money was when he face guys like Tito and Oscar. He was doing well with Mosely and he did beat Vargas. I wouldn't be surprised if Mayorga drops Cotto with his wild punches even though I am routing for Cotto.

This thread is total bull****. Are we ****ing joking here?! Margarito had two things that ultimately lead to Cotto's destruction. An uppercut and stamina like a mother ****er.

    Mayorga has NONE of those.

Similar to the Ricardo Torres fight?! Ricardo Torres may have been a wild bull in there, but his punching arsenal and overall ****in' technique is miles above Mayorga.

I'm not saying it would be an easy fight. This **** would be a damn war. Cmon now. Prime for prime...Miguel wins.

    Totally disagree.

Mayorga is not a contender. He is a champion. Look at the numerous belts he's won if you don't believe me.

Two excellent wins, one by KO and one by decision, against a highly rated and undefeated prime fighter who took the '0' of Shane Mosely (A HOF'er). Mayorga also has a brutal knockout win over the unbeaten champion Andrew Lewis, and a close controversial loss to Cory Spinks.

Maskaev didn't have Rahman's number, he just has better stamina than him, and that is why he knocked him out. If you were trying to prove the point that fighters can have other fighters numbers, you used a poor example.

Forrest may have been the better fighter, but that didn't deter Ricardo Mayorga from beating him twice. And better career? Two wins over Shane Mosley and one over the latin snake compared to 2 welterweight title wins and a Jr Middleweight title win doesn't really compare IMO.

I picked Mayorga based on how he beat Forrest twice and it took a runner like Spinks to beat him

Mayorga has a great chin and is wild he will probably send Cotto on the retreat and win rounds by being physical and an intimidator

Crazy how many naysayers Cotto has...always has yet he only lost 2 fights.
1 to a top 10 ATG and 1 to Margarito whihc we'll never know if he was loaded or not.

He'll continue to prove them wrong.

:rofl Cotto by KO/TKO, no chance. How have so many people come to this conclusion?

Look, I'm a massive Cotto fan but he either wins a decision or gets stopped, no way he KO's a prime Mayorga. Mayorga gets a bit underrated at times, prime Mayorga in particular. People see a guy who purposefully let some of his opponents hit him and assume he's a kind of novelty act. Not the case. At welterweight he was a pretty good fighter, two wins vs Forrest, a win over Lewis and a very dubious loss to Spinks attest to that.

I knew someone was going to say something about that part of my post. Only thing is, Vargas wanted the fight and took the fight. Well, Mayorga beat the name. Coming example should be WV2 fighting Arce. Arce loses, he beat-up a has been. Arce wins, he is the best 122 fighter today. That's part of boxing which I don't like. My point for Mayorga is tha he is full of surprises. We only talk about the big names he has lost or won too, but he has fought top ten fighters to get to those titles (147 and 154).

He invites shots to the chin to stay away from the body. Cotto wouldn't fall for that trick. He'd go to the body and head and chop away. I agree that KO'ing is a bit of a stretch, but a victory is DEFINITELY not.
