Roy would outclass Moorer. Moorer has a glossy record but fought limited opposition. His best win was probably Leslie Stewart, and Moorer didn't even look all that good until the KO. Certainly he didn't look like someone who would beat Jones or other great LHWs.
I don't think you can get more embarrassed than Richard Hall as a professional boxer. Jones beat him worse than James Toney beats his sparring partners.
Moorer gets overrated as hell at 175. Great KO record against limited opposition. Not much different than Edwin Valero.
Hagler and especially Robinson were too small. Only some of the many former LHW champions could get the job done: Charles and Spinks would, in my eyes, be favourites to beat Jones. Foster, Michalczewski, and Moore would be guys that Jones would probably decision, but these were all powerful and accurate punchers who would have a serious puncher's chance of putting him out.
I don't think Jones could take Moorer's punching power, I don't think Jones could avoid getting hit because Moorer was an unorthodox southpaw. And Moorer at that weight had the speed and technique of a Hopkins. Remember, Moorer beat Holyfield when he was in his prime. Watch the tapes of Moorer again, his technique might be subtle but he has all the tools to beat Jones.
I watched how be beat that "limited" opposition. He beat them in spectacular fashion. He had ridiculous power, probably the most power of any boxer in the history of the 175lb division and on top of that he was a technically gifted south paw. Jones has problems with south paws and with unorthodox fighters. If Moorer would connect and my opinion is eventually he would, Jones would be hurt and Moorer was one of the best finishers in the history of the sport at that weight. I do think Jones could be knocked out at 175. He got hurt against Del Valle, and Moorer was better than Del Valle. And on top of all that, everyone says Moorer is a true full blooded psychopath, and we know psychopath boxers always have the psychological advantage. Moorer's best win at 175 was against Leslie Stewart, and he looked rather poor up until the knockout. Certainly not a performance that would give me confidence he beats great LHWs like Jones or Qawi or Spinks. Jones had a lot of experience against lefties by the time he was at LHW. At one point, lefties were pretty much all Roy fought at 175. He'll probably get hit here and there with the jab, but I think he'd avoid the big shots. I actually think Moorer was probably better skill wise at heavyweight, he had more experience by then. He just didn't have the size and power he had at LHW, although he had still pop at HW. I also wonder about Moorer's comfort level, physically, at 175 in a tough fight that goes into the late rounds. Moorer starved to make LHW. I don't know if he could take many of Roy's shots, and Roy would probably land much more often than Moorer would.
jones and calzaghe are arguably the only atg's who fought at supermiddle in their prime for a long period so in that case nobody at 168 would beat rjj in his prime i think if u gave calzaghe 5 fights he'd win one or two but jones would get the better of him
When I first saw Moorer it was around the 80s when he has 20 wins all by KO. And you could say he was fighting "bums" but he was the champion and he was knocking everybody out. I honestly don't think Roy Jones Jr can take Michael Moorers punch and he would get hit by more than the jab. Griffin, Hopkins, Del Vale, Tarver, all hit Roy Jones Jr with their best shots and if Moorer had hit Jones Jr with his best shot it would be lights out. I like Jones Jr against every kind of fighter except for technically skilled unorthodox power punchers. I honestly don't think Jones would be able to match Moorer at infighting, or see Moorers punches to avoid some of them, unless Roy Jones Jr were to run all night, and while he could do that at 168 there is no reason to believe he could do it at 175. The Jones Jr who beat Hopkins by staying on his toes, by 175 he wasnt able to fight like that a whole 12 rounds and also he couldn't maintain his power so after a while I think Moorer would lose respect for his punch.
:rofl If Carl Froch was frustrated by the movement of Dirrell, how on earth is he going to negate Roy's speed?? I think I've heard it all!
