Hello guys, just looking for some input/advice. My brother and I watch have been watching boxing since 2006, although he doesn't watch as much as I do. We are planning on joining a gym soon, but over the past few years we've been "trying" to box by being self taught, and sparring with friends from time to time. He met a guy in school, in the blue headgear (195lbs), who has been training at a boxing gym for about 5 months. They're both 17 years old. They decided to spar for 3 rounds. My brother (185lbs) is in the black headgear: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7sqdKPf9Yw[/ame] Who in your opinion did better against the other? What are some obvious flaws you can point out in either person? I know we're being limited by not having a legit boxing trainer, but we will in the future. Thanks all.
First off go to a gym asap, I have notice the guy in the black helm is dropping his hand after he throws a punch and when he goes for a punch he does not bring it in as fast.
I've on been watching it for a few seconds, but I noticed right away that your brother is parrying with the wrong hand. Don't com across your body to parry a punch. Use your right hand to parry jabs and left hand to parry right cross. I have sparring partners who parry with the wrong hand all the time and I usually just throw a cross right after my jab and they'll be wide open for it
You mean the first few seconds of the video? The guy in blue headgear is the one parrying jabs with the wrong hand, right? My bro is wearing the black headgear. but yeah thanks for the heads up, parrying with the wrong hand definitely leaves one open for a follow up punch by the other hand.
It seems like the guy in the blue head gear is the untrained one, it seems like he hasnt been boxing as long as the other guy also, get your bro to a gym, theyll teach him how to work with a guy like that, work out new movements and improving the timing, thats what sparring someone with less experience is all about.
Better standard than I thought when I read the description. Both are a bit flat footed. Your brother also moves in the same direction all the time unless the other guy makes him change, he should vary that.
lol yeah came in expecting to get some lols from a backyard tear up ended up getting what looked like a novice amateur bout
That's what I thought, specifically for self taught. Both need to learn to fight inside, which I find much more difficult to learn.
Not too bad. The other guy seems to have taken the "Inside Fighter" track at the boxing gym. That is a much tougher road to hoe. Your brother should have been a bit more "persistent" to create more openings for his counter punching. You guys should do more blocking drills so that he feels better standing his ground and countering.
Exactly what I thought. What did he do for 5 months? Wasted some money at that gym for sure. Your bro is on the right track. It's cool you guys already have the set up at home for extra work and he's young. Keep it up! And join that gym!
Blue headgear needs to squat and bend his knees when he's bobbing and weaving under punches. When he tries to duck the shot, instead of keeping his head forward, he often turns his gaze downward and that leaves him open. That'll happen when you try to evade using your lower back more than using your hips/legs. With a minute into the second round, both fighters appeared to be gassed out already and didn't recover even when it went into the third round. The sooner your bro gets into a gym, the better.
