Most boxing fans consider Sugar Ray Robinson (or maybe Greb) as the best P4P fighter of all time. But since it's P4P, it means we're taking size out of the equation.

Who do you guys think can be considered the best if we DO take size into account?

I'm not even talking about achievements. But pure H2H capability. Meaning if you all fighters from all weight classes fought each other, who do you think is the fighter would be able to beat everyone else (or at least have the least number of losses).

Who would be #1? Who would your top 5 be?

Obviously it would be someone from the HW division. Does it automatically follow that the top 5 HW fighters of all time would be the same top 5 here?

Take note that we're putting H2H capabilities as the major criteria (granted, you can never take resume completely out of the equation because it is still the best measure of actual skills) but let's say perceived H2H skills > resume in this case.

    :huh

yeah, I guess I need to clarify what I meant by H2H since the definition is a bit loose.

    unless that's sarcasm?

Impossibly hard to be sure but I think prime ali would start as favourite against pretty much everybody

Indeed. It's the obvious start since most people have Ali as the best HW of all time. But I really think it's a bit more complicated since Ali isn't unbeatable, but he does have an incredible resume...

haha yes agreed. IMO Tyson was the number one greatest fighter in his prime ever seen, if we're not taking weight into account.

At the same time i'm basing it on alot of guess work as i understand the argument that he never face a true great in his prime during this period.

But how tyson looked destroying the fighters he beat for me, makes him the greatest if you were going to pick one fighter from one period of time.

hmm... actually wasn't asking who was the best at each weight (good list though) but more like if all the fighters fought each other (meaning we could have the big guys fighting the little guys), who would come out on top? Sort of saying, if we didn't have weight classes in boxing, who would be the best ever?

I imagine the top would all be HW fighters (and maybe some cruisers, which would be interesting)

Did you understand the question. I assumed he meant, if every fought everyone. but not on mythical pound for pound. So your answer is basically saying if you put Floyd Mayweather and Chavez in the ring with Tyson or Ali, and the fighhters could come in at any weight they wanted. Then Floyd and chavez would win.

true. but I think Big George remains a possibility assuming that Ali and George fight only once. Ali could lose to Frazier and George could still demolish smokin joe. they could all be 1-1 in this scenario, so who comes out on top would be how they fare against the other heavies.
