Wow. That is one of the best battles of this decade. It was two great fighters trading bombs and anyone who questions Lewis's chin needs to watch that fight. While it can be argued that Lewis was picking the pace up, I still feel Klitschko would've probably won the fight. I'm unbiased as well.
it was an awesome fight im also a fan of both of them but i feel with that cut in a round or 2 more vitali wouldnt of been able to see and he would of got stopped, but then again lewis was really out of shape so he might not of had the gas to stop him but i think he would still of a good chance of outpointing him unless vitali stopped him first which is also very possible im gonna have to go with a lennox tko around the 9th or 10th
After so many years I really don´t know and/or don´t care who would have won the fight but it was on hell of a brawl. Both men really took some huge punishment
Do we really one of these threads every week that inevitably goes on for 12 pages? Just saying.......
*Takes out popcorn* I have a feeling this one will be better than the 250 other threads on the same topic this month *chomp* *chomp*
I hope we will get a real contender in the HW ranks soon... I want to see barnburners like Lennox vs Vitali every single week! :bbb
Great fight. Truly a classic.:good That fight may be Lewis' career defining fight and a great way to go out. I think Lennox was going to KO him the next couple of rounds though. Lewis' bombs kept landing more and more frequently and VK couldn't find a way of stopping them. I don't think VK was his greatest opponent, it's just he made it a great fight and helped demonstrate why Lewis was so great.:good
I thought Lewis looked really slow and out of shape at the beginning, much like in his fight with Rahman (still he did win the rounds vs Rahman but lost most of them vs Klitschko). I think Lewis picked up the pace somewhat after round 4 or so. The stoppage was fair and Lewis deserved the win. I think Lewis would have had the better chance of winning had it gone on. I think he´d have made the cut worse over time. But I don´t think it would have been a given and Vitali would certainly have stood a chance of winning. I think at the beginning of this fight, it could have gone either way for sure. I think a prime, in shape Lewis would probably have won the fight pretty comfortably.
I gained a lot of respect for Lewis getting in there with Vitali, who had a great chance of taking his belts. "Champions" today seem reluctant to do that. Its a tough fight to talk about because it was stopped on a legit punch cut, but I felt that Vitali would overcome Lewis otherwise. Still, can't take the win from Lewis. He won it fair and square. Vitali gained huge credibility by fighting Lewis. Wish more fights like that were happening.
It was especially commendable of Lewis to take that fight on short notice, he was supposed to fight Kirk Johnson that night (thank god that fell through). Of course it was short notice for Klitschko too, but he had been thinking about Lewis and how to fight him for the longest, and he was so hungry for that fight. Anyway, i always think it's interesting for people to talk about who would have won if the fight had continued, when realistically, there's no way that fight SHOULD have continued. Like Lewis told Larry Merchant; "look at the state of his face!", the guy was messed up and needed plastic surgery afterward, no way they should have let that go on.
V.K. also showed he does have heart. You could feel the emotion when the fight was stopped. I hate it for him but he's a champion now and I'm sure a rematch would've been just as terrific.
