ShoBox: Rico Ramos vs. Alejandro Valdez & Don George vs. Cornelius White RBR

I have this 4-3 Ramos through 7. This fight is very much on the table and Valdez seems to be gaining in confidence.

Also really looking forward to the fights on the 26th.

77-74 for Ramos

 

Round 8

Valdez is pursuing as Ramos stays on his bike (and only dismounts to clinch). After a break halfway through the round Ramos drops his left hand low and stares Valdez down like he's going to try and fight him at short range, but immediately moves backward when Valdez warms to the challenge. Valdez is coming in low and tossing his arms behind Ramos, pulling him in and trying to infight as much as he can before the breaks. Ramos doesn't like this and is simply leaning into Valdez and waiting for the referee to save him as Valdez taps him on the body. Valdez pushes him into a corner with several unanswered jabs. Valdez brings his punches upstairs and clocks Ramos on the side of the head a couple of times. Ramos blasts him with a few hard counters, but the keyword is few.

 

Really tough round to score there.

 

I swear Darnell Walker must have been doing nitrous oxide in the locker room. :yep

The gayest trainer I've ever seen. A hoot!

 

I have this 5 rounds to 4 Ramos, but could easily see a judge disagreeing with me on round 8 and having it 5-4 the other way. Not the most exciting bout I've ever seen, but damn close and up for grabs in the last round.

 

Round 9

Valdez keeps flypapering himself to Ramos, wrestling him and whacking him on the inside against the ropes. Ramos looks a bit suffocated under the pressure and is trying to get clean counters off but can't get himself set up before Valdez mauls him. Ramos pushes Valdez's head down in a clinch that takes up the last thirty seconds of the round and Valdez throws tired arm punches at his hips.

 

Darnell: Sweet science, understand? Go to work. DEEP BREATH! Sweet science, baby. OK? Go and give it to him.

Valdez's trainer: Come on. You gotta just go. Just knock him out, OK?

Round 10

Valdez keeps pinning himself to Ramos, and Ramos goes down...it was after a headbutt but there was an accumulation of lovetaps on his way down. Ramos has a cut looked at by the ringside physician and is cleared to go on. Valdez walks into a body shot and might be hurt! Ramos digs deep and finds some energy to work his hands in fast, flashy combination. They clinch and Ramos' head is pushed backward by Valdez's from under his chin. Ramos lands a stiff jab that snaps Valdez's head. HARD left hook winding from underneath to the jaw by Ramos!! Valdez throws some wild jabs off-course and walks Ramos down but is exhausted and just flops on top of him. Ramos backs into a corner and rips Valdez with some counter hooks and then staggers him with a straight right hand.

Where did Ramos find that??

 

Ramos pulled out a big round when he needed it. The swing for me could be judges sitting across the ring in round 8 would not have a good view of his counters when Valdez had him in the corner. A judge or two giving it to Valdez would change my 6-4 Ramos to a draw.
