Glen Johnson told his promoter Dan Goosen that he had no more interest in Joe and then fought Roy Jones. We all know what happened. Glen could have waited for Joe, but decided not to.

Maybe Joe was really injured. He postponed fights against Sheika, Lacy, Kessler and Jones.

But this does not hide the fact that Joe agreed to fight Johnson in Sept. 06, on the basis that Johnson beat Woods.

if you are ducking someone why keep agreeing to fight them?

Calzaghe has beaten fighters better than Johnson. Plus he had more to gain by fighting Lacy.

 

Get real. Froch is a long way from becoming Britain's all time number 1! Froch has never beaten the top-ranked fighter in his division. He has never been ranked number one in his division. He has lost to a fighter who had lost to the division's best fighter.

I would pick Dirrell to beat Froch in a rematch on neutral soil. Kessler would be the slight favourite in a rematch.

Now, if Froch were to beat Ward I would have to re-evaluate him but I really can't see that happening. Even then his acheivement would be to have become #1 in a not especially talented super-middleweight division.

As much as I dislike David Haye he is closer than Froch to all-time greatness. Were he to beat both of the brothers we would be a legit two-weight champion, with one of those divisions being the blue riband heavyweight division. Now, I don't see Haye beating the Klitschkos...but then I don't see Froch beating Ward either.

 

Sooner, how would that have worked? Calzaghe had all the titles when he was coming up to that level, what did the division matter?

 

Froch will never be as talented as Calzaghe, but he's near enough accomplished just as much. A Johnson and Ward win probably put him ahead of Calz on resume. Had he beat Kessler, he would already be above Calz right now. Younger Froch gets a UD against Johnson which won't earn him credit as much as Calz v Bernard, but if Froch bullies Ward to a decision then no one can argue that Pascal-Taylor-Dirrell-Abraham-Johnson-Ward isn't as good as Lacy-Kessler-Hopkins.

In fact, Froch's win over Dirrell will prove to be so much better than Calz over Lacy, sure Lacy had way more hype than Dirrell but Dirrell has the talent to rise to the top of this division and will be around the top for years to come. Lacy has been exposed but The Matrix has held his own against Froch and Abraham, two very high pressure fighters and will get better. That said, as tough as Froch is, Kessler is the worst match up for him stylisticly and Froch doesn't beat Mikkel in a month of Sundays,

Joe C = Wasted talent because ability wise he písses all over the current 168 from a great height. His resume is shíte though.

Calzaghe was WBO champ 97-07. He won the WBC belt against Kessler NOVEMBER 07.

Froch was calling out Joe from 2004. He should have gone down the route of the WBO to get a shot at Cazlaghe. Not the WBO belt but Calazghe.

Instead Mick took him down the WBC route - a belt Joe did not possess.

Remember Froch was due to fight Reid the night before Calzaghe/Kessler, but they put it back a week so they could see who the WBC champ was. Yet Froch only became the mandatory in May 08 - after Joe had moved up.

Drinker he agreed times before and pulled out. Jones probs pays more and much higher profile then Calzaghe by the way and Glenn knew he actually get to fight. There's two articles saying Calzaghe pulled out injured for the bout. I never said he ducked (although funny he pulled out against a 'journeyman') but if Johnson is a journeyman why did he pursue a fight with him? and why not fight him even with sore hands if he ain't that good?.

Sure it is. However, you seem to be forgetting about Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Sheika, Brewer, Mitchell and Bika, all of whom were legitimate world class fighters.

 

Johnson ain't bad but he's lost more than he's won at world level! His longevity is more impressive than his talent. No doubt he'd have given Calz a fight but I can't see any way he'd have beaten him. Let's face it, as a super middle titlists if you didn't want to step in the ring with a light heavy you'd just say "thanks for the offer but I'm staying at 168". You wouldn't waste time arranging the bout then pulling out, rearranging then pulling out again.

 

Some of these Calzaghe fans remind me of Mayweather fans.

If Froch beats Johnson, Ward, Bute and Pascal again by the middle of next year...... realistically he'll have another couple of years left.

Knock over a couple of young contenders and retire on a megafight, will make for an excellent career.

Not quite up there with Lewis, but superior to Hatton, Hamed and Calzaghe.

And Haye obviously.

Calzaghe was the more talented of the two but didn't put himself in the firing line nearly often enough, Froch has, and for that he should receive credit.

Fighting a few more prime contenders would have made Lewis beyond criticism.
