Are you guys serious? I've never seen Langford fight, but he was 5'6. I don't care how great you are, you can't beat a guy thats over two feet taller than you.
Sammy Lang was great, no doubt, but his ass would get mowed by V.K. in a time machine... Klit a foot taller and 60 + pounds of muscle heavier would keep the wily but weaker S.L. at bay and pick him apart before wearing him down and out... MR.BILL:hat
Sometimes I think this board is more akin to a collective fantasy role playing game than an actual forum for discussion of the fistic arts.
Sometimes I think 'Ow, my nuts.' but then I realize I mean to think 'Oh. My nuts.' but then I realize it's more accurately 'Oh, my nuts?'. Anyway, I hear you, man.
stick to your guns then: vitali at 7'6 would destroy that little midget:bbb seriously, i have trouble editing on my computer let alone a phone
It is a lot to take in. I can appreciate that. If I were to pick Jack Dempsey over Vitally Klitschko then most people would understand my chain of reasoning even if they did not agree with it. Now as far as I can tell, most people who fought both Jack Dempsey and Sam Langford said that Langford was the more dangerous puncher and some even maintained that he was a better puncher than Joe Louis. That is how highly he was thought of by his contemporaries.
I think people get too mixed up taking sides in "old era" vs "modern era". Langford achieved phenomenally in his time, as he would today if he would face the same size fighters he did then. There comes a point where a size difference becomes too great a handicap to overcome. I think Langford would be right in it in a fight against, say, Evander Holyfield, even though Holyfield is a much better Heavyweight then Vitali, I give Langford no chance against the latter. He would take too much damage trying to close the distance against a tall-fighting Vitali, and his punching power would hardly come into play.
.... In a time when someone who at 6'1 was considered a "giant". Too much size difference. Langford struggled with and failed to knock out a glass chinned, far inferior and smaller counterpart in Fulton, yet he's gonna stop the iron chinned Vitali Klitschko according to some? With a foot of height differential? Wishful thinking. Boring fight similar to VK-Peter.
