Either positive or negative threads about him. A tribute to the man. No matter which way you look at it !

Not by me. That's why I'm usually in the classic forum...to talk of and learn of the many other fighters than Ali who are so sadly ignored everywhere else except in boxing afficianado circles. The mainstream, shallow, casual "sports fan" is apt to say that Ali is "the greatest fighter of all time" without knowing any better. Maybe the greatest heavyweight, certainly the biggest name, a global figure, etc., but not the GOAT.

He's still widely talked about,by association,in other threads. He's my favourite, but I too like learning about the ones that are ignored.

He's my favourite but my God, it's getting boring ... there's other fighters in boxing's jllustrious history and the Ali threads always end up with the same arguments being had.

Good point. It's amazing how many years that some of the arguements have been going on. Especially the 'controversial' Liston bouts.

Oh of that I'm certain...but I can assure you that he occupies but a tiny part of the sum of the world of boxing for me and I'm sure others feel that way too. many of the Ali idolizers are part of the know-nothing realm of the "sports fan"..who just gloss on the big names..like all the "Mike Tyson" fans of the 80's who couldn't possibly know who you were talking about if you mentioned "Eder Jofre", "Willie Pep" or "Alexis Arguello"...

A big surprise there. I'd say that Il Duce has, intentionally or not, contributed to most of it.

Classic seems more heavyweight dominated than ever these days.

He is at the moment, there seems to be trends that last a few months.

Maybe in the classic forum. On ESB as a whole Pacquaio, Mayweather, the Klitschkos, Haye, Khan, Hopkins and Adamek are probably more talked about- which makes sense because they're all current fighters. In fact there is probably more discussion of Calzaghe and Hatton too. Maybe I'm just missing all these Ali threads, he seems to be mentioned on ATG lists a lot but not properly discussed the way the above fighters are

Actually what he's saying is correct. This being said from a person who has no disdain whatsoever for any boxing fan. It's just that we don't have much of an opportunity to discuss the more forgotten fighters anywhere else, so this is the place to be. You're right though that he could have put it better than call the casual fan "shallow". Not everyone takes the time to inquire into everything he happens to like.

He never used to be, I'd say him and SRR were hardly mentioned compared to their standing in the sport

    Seems to be recent development
