Call it the Irish bias but I'll be pulling for McCloskey here. Should be a heck of a fight regardless though.
Mccloskeys realistic aims for this fight need to be putting in a better performance than the others Khan has fought at his level, Scott Lawton, Graham Earl, if he can survive to round 5 before it gets waved off then he should consider it a success.
McCloskey is a far more serious threat than Lawton and Earl and will not be going in there to survive. See the Colin Lynes fight if you need convincing.
Colin Lynes... When you have to say the above line as example for a fighter qualities, you know there is something wrong.
why? funny thing is that Lynes was the favourite going into the fight and McCloskey only took it at a week or so's notice. You chat shít that you dont back up. Interesting that you never This content is protected .
It's like Kidderminster harriers drawing Arsenal at the emirates in the FA Cup and them saying "We have a great chance, you only have to look at our game against York city to know this"
The Lynes fight underlines Paul's qualities, but I was not using this as a yardstick for the Khan fight. Of course there is a big step up from Lynes to Khan, but who is to say that McCloskey cannot bridge the gap and give Khan serious problems?? Why are you so certain that Paul is a league below Khan when you have not yet seen him at world title level?? P.S Willie Limond was pretty much Grimsby Town when he faced Khan, but still game him plenty of problems.
I'm certain because never in a bout has he shown anything which indicated he has world class ability. Willie Limond did that's true, but I would also say that Paul Mccloskey would give Amir Khan of 2007 even more problems. The problem is that Khan is no longer that boxer
I'm not sure you can pass such a judgement about him at this stage in his career. He has been pitted against solid domestic talent and has already proved he is a class above them. A better class of opponent often brings out a better performance in a fighter. Khan is a much better fighter, there is no question of that, but he remains very vulnerable and that has not changed since 2007.
This stage in his career?, the guy is 31 years old. Nor has he shown he is "a class above domestic talent", he's shown he's better than them, but by no means a great deal. He's fringe Euro level and will never be anything more. Anyone who puts in a display like he did against Lauri is going nowhere
