As a gym rat, whataya C that is never mentioned?

Just how much a well-placed body shot can hurt you. I remember in one of my fights, I was winning comfortably when in the last round my opponent hit me with a perfect kidney shot, I've never felt that much pain in the ring. I didn't go down, but I could barely breathe and just had to try and run away for the last two minutes. I hung on for the win though, but now every time I see a body shot thrown by professionals that have perfected it I cringe at the thought of what it must feel like.

I saw Tyson train in 2000, before he fought Saverese. He was working heavybag drills with Stacey McKinlay, and when he hit the bag it sound like to would if Id hit it with a baseball bat.
He then worked on the pads, and he was incredible. Every punch was designed to hurt, but he was so, unbelievably accurate.
That was probably 10-12 years from his peak, but he was still awesome to watch, that and the size of his thighs and neck!

 

What you're describing BB, can't truly be appreciated 'tillya see it a few feet away in a gym. It's AWESOME!

 

A frind of mine saw valero hitting the bag while he was on holidays in vegas.said everytime he let his left hand go it was like someone was shooting a shotgun in the gym

 

I had a similar experience with Marciano, n, but it was like 16-inch guns shelling shore batteries before an invasion. Shock waves rumbled the gym.

 

I haven't really had many wars but have sparred some good fighters.

its amazing how comfortable, fluid and in control the elite amateurs are, when i spar them i felt like a child in there being toyed by adults doing what ever they wanted with me!

then when i see those same amateurs get into wars with fighters their own level its mind boggling thinking what they could do to me if they wanted!

i mean im not the best fighter in the world but some of the novices i sparred i schooled badly making me think im on top of the world!

thats why when i see threads such as bruce lee vs tyson.pac/floyd etc really pisses me off, the skill involved in boxing is very under-appreciated until you have actually tried to box.

 

I had the same experience watching RICKY HATTON train!

 

How impressive was Hatton on the heavy bag, R? Even though he was ferocious, hard to imagine him rivaling Liston 'n Forman, et al.

 

elite Speed fighters when they hit the heavy bag u hear a snap not a thud like a bullswhip

 

Yeah i doubt he hits anywhere near as hard as them but he has very heavy hands.

he made very loud pops when he hit the bag.

 

Couldnt agree more John.
I boxed to a decent level and have seen several world champions training, but nothing Id seen before or since even came close.
To think how hard he punched, and then to think that at his best he could throw 6 or 7 at a time, body and head, he must have been terrifying to fight.

Balance, small things in footwork, shift of weight etc. are rarely mentioned or hardly noticable.
