    Roy should have fought his mandatory after he beat Ruiz.....Vitali Klitschko lol

    Have you seen Roy's "offers"? They were disgraceful. He tried to offer Nunn a 90%-10% purse split in his favor. :rofl:patsch

    Jones was not in reality he was not a draw and would not fight you unless you agreed to his location, gloves, ring size etc. It was a joke.

    We don't know how good Jones really was because he handpicked a ton of fights, fought useless BS Mandatory fights which Larry Merchant called him out on and he started to stutter and backtrack with his answers and he simply refused to make any big risky fights. And the 2 times he did fight someone in his Prime (Hopkins, Toney) he stunk the joint out with boring fights where he refused to engage. The Hopkins fight was one of the most boring fights I have ever seen. And the Toney fight was not much better both guys were scared to engage.

    Actually after watching all of Hopkins losses, Jones is by far the more entertaining fight. Calzaghe/Hopkins is brutal. You can never have an extraordinary fight with Hopkins.

    Roy NEVER had any intentions of fighting Eubank......NONE! Jones career at 168lb is a ****ing mess because he made it that way.

    End of story and End of thread!

    Jones called him out saying he would go up to cruiser and beat Jirov. He then did what he did throughout most of his career and took an easier fight instead.

    He did a similar thing with Buster Douglas, called him out at heavyweight then changed his mind at the last minute. Jones maybe a phenomenal fighter but as a promoter and manager he was atrocious, hence why he was only a star late in his career and you had instances like the Roycott.

    Excellent post. Jones is one of those guys that knobs just love to aimlessly hate on. These are the same knobs that give Calzaghe props for beating him as a washed up old man version of Jones....go figure

    You can't duck a fighter you already outclassed. Take Hopkins and Toney off that list. The onus was on them to make the rematch by all means possible and they weren't willing to that, Hopkins especially.

    Also scratch Lennox, Roy was no heavyweight and made his intentions clear he was only at heavy to win a title and maybe for a megafight with Holyfield or Tyson.

    As for the others on the list (on which Calzaghe should also be included) they were as much responsible for those fights not happening as was ROy.

    There are two misconceptions:
    1. That there was some super meaningful fight to be made a Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight outside of the guys he fought. As for Benn, that was a decision made by the promoters of both fighters and because and he wasnt hugely popular in the states they couldnt come to an agreement. Even if he had fought him, it was no superfight. It would have been less meaningful than the Toney fight even and Roy would have beat him in a one sided fight just like everyone else. At light heavyweight, it was a somewhat weak division, but that was not his fault. he fought some very good fighters there though. The division was no weaker than it is today. Johnson, Grant, Hall, Hill, Gonzales, Woods, Griffin...All would have probably been in a 50-50 fight with Cloud, Dawson, and Pascal. Michaelszeski may have posed the biggest challenge, but he wasnt coming here and I dont blame Roy for not going there. Roy was the true champion at light heavy, not DM.


    2. ROY was scared to take chances and he ducked fighters. Roy was always willing to fight the best. It was Don King early on who controlled who he did and didnt fight. But, he did fight some dangerous fighters early on. Jorge Castro, Vaca who had just KO Breland in his previous fight, and of course Paz, toney, and Hopkins. Plus his father had a big say in Roys career since he was a kid. After Roy started promoting himself he showed that he was willing to fight anyone, even against better judgement. He didnt need to fight Tarver, he wanted to prove that he was still the king at light heavyweight. He didnt need to fight him twice more either. Its easy to pick apart any fighters careers, but Roy seems to get a lot of undeserved criticism over the years. I think people are starting to appreciate him more now though.

    peopel can hate on an all time great as much as they want. bottom line is he did it and everyone on here wishes they could. hope the all time great rests and retires.

    Jones' most outrageous duck was against the true World Light Heavyweight Champion, Daruisz Michalczewski. It's irrefutable. For years, Jones was allowed to defend his bogus paper titles @ 175lbs on HBO against challengers he hand picked himself, whilst claiming he was the "Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion". A blatant lie. He even went as far as to try & ban Michalczewski's name from being mentioned on air during Jones' fights.

    Watch the Jones-Hill telecast. In the pre-fight segment, both Jones AND Lampley blatantly lie about Jones having no big rivals to fight. The worst thing is that many American boxing writers disgracefully went along with this ****.

    but if he catches Roy then yeah, Roy's lights would be put off permanently.

    I honestly believe Roy would've lost to at least 2 or 3 or those guys had they fought. And I am still of the opinion that Roy lost to Frankie Liles in the Olympics.

    So you apply what your saying to Michalczewski too? Cause he never beat anyone that was any better than the guys Roy was beating. In fact they both fought a lot of the same fighters, Hall, Gonzales, Harmon, Hill. Roy beat them all more impressively imo. DM would have been a good rival, but he never fought outside his country and Roy would not have gotton a fair fight over there. I dont think Jones-DM had Hagler-Hearns written on it.
