Imagine Buffer booming out "In this corner, a guy with imaginary victories over some of the best depleted names in heavyweight history and real victories over some terrific-....-ally...overrated contenders...Jimmy ...."KID...ALSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-RANNNNNNNNN" Youuuuuuuuuuuuung! Young!"

 

I see Peak Holy winning too convincingly for there to be a rematch.

 

Holyfield works harder to win a decision, but has difficulties with Young's craftiness and survival tactics. Remember Holyfield vs old Holmes.

 

Holyfield's told stories in interviews from recent years that an ancient Young gave him fits in sparring.

 

Jimmy wasn't as good as some of the previous writers think, but he's much better than Boxed Ears' opinion.

My theory on Young is that physically, when in shape, he had all the tools he needed. Mentally I don't think he had it. Sure, it's discouraging to lose decisions that you believe you won, but other guys wouldn't have let themselves go the way Jimmy did. After the Norton fight, Young kind of threw a three-year pity-party for himself and just let his career slide. All he had to do was outbox Ocasio and he'd have been the number 1 or 2 contender. He should've taken Ossie seriously, kicked his ass, then either fought Norton or Shavers again for a shot at Holmes, or gone straight for Larry.

Ocasio himself is an underrated guy and not easy to beat, but I still believe Young could've and should've won the damn fight and stayed in the thick of things.

 

I consider young to be a better technician and slippier fighter then old Holmes.

think he actually won the Occassio fight. And Eveander did say he couldn't touch Young in sparring, till he just through so many punches in combination. And, yea, you'd think Evander would just be so busy, and outwork Jimmy, but, he may just get disgouraged hitting air all night. Jimmy had the tools and smarts to beat anybody, while I see a very busy, inshape Holyfeild, I have to go with my man Jimmy. And anybody who thinks Young was a dog, overated fighter , must be a pro wrestling fan. This guy is amazing to watch.

 

I think he won the second Ocasio fight. I remember being horrified when he got cut near the end, then lost the decison. First fight I think he blew, though it was close.

I wish Young had been better managed earlier on. And I definitely wished his health had held up later in life.

As an aside, let me say that I appreciate this site. Where else can you find geeks who still get worked up about fights that happened over 30 years ago? I thought I was the only one.

Incidentally, I'm not aiming at techks. He's just a casualty of war between me and Tommy. It's a little sad, really. He didn't do anything wrong...He just happens to be where I'm throwing grenades at that Tommy. :conf
