Froch vs Calzaghe @ 168 who wins?

There are things you can say that Froch has going for him as opposed to JC.

You can say that he has more balls, and is willing to fight the best. You can say that he is willing to travel (although he has been a bit of a whiner about that, he has already done a lot more than Joe) to prove himself.
You could say that Joe wouldn't have even signed up for the Super 6.
You could say that Froch has more pop in his punches.

But you simply cannot, in any sane way, say that Froch can beat JC. Those who think Froch would even be competitive in losing are ****ing ******ed.

Who were the best of Calzaghe's WBO challengers?

I'd expect you to say..... Woodhall, Reid, Kessler & Lacy.

Three of those four were very competitive with Calzaghe throughout, the other turned out to be an overhyped B/C level fighter with crap footwork and almost zero handspeed.

Would the Froch that turned up against Abraham lose to any of Lacy, Woodhall and Reid?

We already know he's pretty much even with Kessler, and get a win if there were to be a return.

 

I had Kessler winning pretty clearly against Froch. A badly faded Kessler.

Joe whooped a prime Kessler.

Some of Froch's wins (Dirrell, Taylor), as well as his loss show that Froch can be outboxed. JC wouldn't fight like a ***** as Dirrell did, he wouldn't fade like Taylor was famous for doing.

Froch was only really impressive against Abraham. Stylistically, JC is nothing at all like Abraham, but is much more like those opponents which Froch had trouble with. Except that all of the things that troubled Froch would be worse, and the things that saved Froch against Dirrell and Taylor would be absent.

I can't see anything other than a clear Calzaghe victory - a really one sided one too.

Like I said, there are things that Froch has over JC. Froch is also improving still, and his resume is just getting better. Who knows how good he can be? But prime JC beats the current Froch, and it wouldn't be close.

 

JC fought and convincingly beat Kessler at his best. Froch fought an older, slower Kessler with eye problems and fought well but lost. WTF are you talking about? The version of Kessler that lost to JC would **** Froch.

 

Froch would be better boxing against Calzaghe and looking to draw him onto the right hand.

Remember Calzaghe ate right hands for breakfast.

At the top level Froch can't brawl to save his life..... and Calzaghe was one of the very best at slugging it out in the trenches.

 

Good point. I'm a massive Froch fan and have followed him since his pro debut but even I would admit that he would be very unlikely to beat Calzaghe. I think it would be similar to the Calzaghe v Kessler fight, ie close for 4-5 rounds and then Calzaghe pulls away to win a clear decision.

That said, Froch's legacy will be more impressive

 

I would say that Calzaghe although not officially announcing his retirement till the date you gave did say that unless he lost to Jones it would be his last fight and that was no secret.
