Malpass was very much a veteran with 17 previous defeats on his record and he would never win another fight after Fury

All in all a humiliating loss for 'The Nations Hardest Man' for ten rounds Malpass backed to the ropes and held out his left arm, Fury ducked under it, Malpass hit him with uppercuts and cuffs round the head, then leaned down on Fury till the ref broke them up (bit like Holmes v Mercer at a lesser level)

'Gypsy John' did not have the ability, brains or punch to vary his approach, one can only hope he was more imaginative with his much vaunted 'bare knuckle' encounters because he couldn't fight for toffee with gloves on

Tyson should be alright - remember he's 22 now, not 21, & has been able to grow up a lot since then.

It never ceases to surprise me how these big, hardman streetfighters tend to have mediocre, at best, records in the ring. But of course it's a different matter when there's no rules......

Strange how the best-paid way of fighting doesn't attract the best fighters.

 

I don't know what standards you're judging him by, but I would have thought his hand speed was one of his strengths. If he didn't have any ability, he wouldn't have fought and beaten McDermott and Page, and he wouldn't have done so well as an amateur. You can't read too much into underage amateur achievements, but he's probably the only British superheavyweight ever to win a medal at European or World level as a junior.

 

I think the sentence is ridiculously harsh TBH.
As someone else mention, child molesters get MUCH lighter sentences.
Rapists get sentences probably about half that.
This was a fight that got way out of hand, but he didnt try to kill the guy.
I know someone convicted of cutting someones throat, and got less than that.

Most so-called hardmen would get spread like jam if they tried to go up against a seasoned, well-trained pro of any fighting discipline.

 

I imagine some sort of previous was involved in the sentance but I am only speculating!
