I was thinking about this the other day.

I can only think of 2. Muhammad Ali and Bernard Hopkins. Is there anyone else?

Holmes is another obvious choice. Duran dethroned Buchanan in June 1972, and challenged Joppy at the end of August 1998. El Cholo came within two years on both sides of contesting for a world title in five decades, and may well have done it in four if not for the auto accident which finally forced him into permanent retirement. (During his post fight comments immediately following Camacho II, Duran made it very clear he had no intentions whatsoever of quitting then. He was still a big enough name that his recognition may have garnered him yet another title shot in the new millennium.)

By the way... who was the first fighter to have contested world title fights in 3 different decades?

I really wish Don "Greedy" King hadn't been greedy & tried to get Rahman two title defences before facing Lewis again, despite only being allowed one, prompting Lewis to force him into an immediate rematch.

King should've just put Rahman in with Tyson, it would've made huge money & i think Tyson probably would've trained decently like he did for Golota, not sat on the couch eating donuts & watching tv as he did for Nielsen. My prediction; Tyson KO5 in a great exciting slugfest. He could've been the only Heavyweight to win a world title in 3 decades*! :verysad

*Although, technically Holmes deserves that achievement anyway, because he outboxed McCall on my card.

In total agreement with you - especially on the Holmes-McCall thing too - something which gets all too overlooked :good

Jack Johnson also spanned five decades, but his caliber of competition during the 1930s didn't quite measure up to Camacho, Goosen and Lawlor.

    Shannon Briggs.

    No, seriously. 1998, 2006 and 2010.

That'd make this a good trivia question, few people would think of him I'd reckon.
