Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Ray Robinson

It was a challenge to get either guy into the ring!

 

Ray is different than Floyd in that regard. Ray was a smart and no nonsense business man. he didn't let any take advantage of him, but on the same note he never let his business sense prevent him from doing his job and ultimately making a fortune. Floyd on the other hand....the line between business and his profession is hazy, to the point where it affects his ablity to do his job and fight. Just look at Ray's ring record and you'll see it's simply not true that it was a challenging ordeal to get Ray to fight. He would fight every other week sometimes.

Floyd Jr still has a lot of work to do. Sugar Ray was down to cancel fights at the last minute if things weren't perfectly his way!

 

Floyd is a student of the sport. Sugar Ray Robinson wrote the book. He was the sweet science. Sugar Ray all day.

 

Floyd is better defensively, hand speed is about the same. Power heavily in favor of SRR, footwork maybe goes to SRR. Chin is up in the air, considering Floyds record vs knockdowns but SRR faced way harder punching competition so he probably has the edge on that one. Heart undoubtedly goes to SRR. Floyd really only has the advantage in one category IMO.

The numbers of fights mean nothing because it was other era. Pacman is in the final stages as floyd and neither of them has 150 fight or close to that. The only thing that has kept floyd from be more active in the punches department are his hands. floyd is one of the best boxer all time and did not get the credit that he deserve. Is not his fault to be so good. He will beat pacman easy and after that the tale will be the same. floyd impress, shotout the opposition and 2 month later tha critics forget what he has done. In this forum and if we can make an analysis there were a lot of people who said that floyd will never fight mosley. The mosley will beat him, and if floyd fight him, he will be running etc. The fight proves them wrong, floyd go toe to toe and after the big punch, he goes more to the offensive to aniquilate the poor mosley. But people forget, search for stuid excuses etc. Floyd is better than ray robinson in almost all, exept for power. And in the end, power means nothing because if power was all, ali was not the greatest heavyweight of all time period. Floyd hands down, better boxer.

 

*Both guys retired from boxing for about 2 years
*Sugar Ray tried to become a professional dancer, Floyd was on dancing with the stars
*They beat up women in their free time

Floyds a great fighter in his own right, but I struggle to even compare him to SRR. Robinson was just in another league. 200 professional fights, 1400 rounds. Floyd has fought a quality 300 rounds against better opposition overall than maybe he gets credit, but he hasnt graduated to Robinsons level or even near it and likely never will. Robinson fought in a golden era of boxing and fought guys who were as battle tested as him. Other HOFers over many weights. Floyd has a long way to go. Its a near immpossible task for any fighter.

 

People are idiots here for real, you can't compare boxers of the past to those now, athletes are bigger stronger, and faster these days, and also the sport has evolved. Nothing i seen from watching Rays fights tell that he could trouble May.

Floyd wouldn't have made it to where Robinson is even if he beat Tszyu, Cotto, marg, etc.

The game's structure today doesn't allow for anyone to become the GOAT.
