I didn't read anything in this article that implied that they were close to a deal.

If you read the article this pops out...

Really? I thought Povetkin "wasn't ready" to fight Wlad yet.
Wlad couldn't even make demands, because Alex was his mandatory.
Way to put a spin on it... :tired

I want to see the terms of their contract.

How much was the purse split for the supposed Wlad-Povetkin fight?

As champion, Klitschko was to earn the lion's share of a 75-25 split of the purse against Povetkin in accordance with IBF rules. That meant that Klitschko would earn approximately $6.2 million ($6,234,750) compared to Povetkin's career-high nearly $2.1 million ($2,078,250).

The author of that article is an idiot. Povetkin didn't fight Wlad *TWICE* because he was unconvinced he has a chance of winning, not because of contractual problems.

Teddy Atlas has said numerous times that he felt Povetkni wasn't ready for Wlad and would have zero chance. Atlas himself said he advised Povetkin to pull out of the second fight with Wlad to make sure his career isn't derailed.

Adam Booth has good links to boxrec (based in the UK). The article is no surprise then.

Hey, if both are afraid to take on a Klit.. then let them fight each other.. because they're both truly a waste of space in the HW scene...
