Prime Vitali vs prime George is a much better match-up.

This thread is currently posted in the classic forum as well, and here was my response.

I agree that Foreman would lose, but I don't think it would necessarily be the one sided beat down that it appears on the surface. There have been several aging and decoditioned fighters that have taken Vitali rounds, and I think Foreman's revised comeback style involving the cross armed defense, better clinching techniques, and straiter punches might carry him to the cards, and even permit him to land several decent shots here and there.

I suppose my prediction would be Vitali by 12 round decision, winning perhaps 9 rounds to 3, but George would have some brief moments of success.

Vitali takes George's grill and thrusts it up his arse.

George would be a punching bag. As good as he was, he wouldn't be able to deal with Vitali's angles and constant movement. George was losing to Moore and landed a beautiful punch to KO him and win, this simply wouldn't happen against Vitali. Too tall and fights tall.

    Vitali by easy UD...

Wide UD or maybe even a "too much punishment" stoppage for Vitali.
I like "comeback" George (obviously), but he was taking a lot of punches from Moorer and Morrison, who are not in the same league as prime Vit.

I love comeback George, it is one of the best stories in boxing. But he also was lucky to find a LHW with strategic flaws holding a title at the time. Moorer didn't have the mental discipline to keep moving in the later rounds and George exploited it. This shouldn't distract from the fact that George, while amazing for his age, was very limited and was outboxed by Axel Schulz, roughed up by Steward and beaten by Morrison. Those fighters are cannon fodder for a prime Vitali. George would be five inches shorter and slower, how would he land significant punches? He would also have a much lesser workrate, lesser reflexes, no advantage in skills.

Prime Vitali could be beaten by injuries or fighters of Lennox' caliber.

comeback George lost to Tommy Morrison, got a gift vs Alex Shults, and a lucky ko in his title win. George would get dominated and stopped just like Ali vs Holmes.

I think Prime Foreman beats the hell out of VK in an embarassing stoppage.

He couldn't beat a a fat, way past-it Lewis while in his prime. How is he supposed to beat a prime Foreman?

George by "lucky" KO. George at any age hits hard. Vitali would tap him, but possibly get discouraged how much George could take. Be interesting to see how Vitali takes one of Georges punches.

Comeback George wasn't a KO artist at the elite level. The KO of Moorer was awesome, but Moorer fully played into his hands. Vitali doesn't "tap" he knocked out everyone in his prime except Byrd with an injured shoulder, 6'8 Hoffmann right after surgery and Lewis.
