Seen quite a few spar and many live fights..but only have met Ike Ibeabuchi and Kirk Johnson in person.
Derrick Findley whose fighting on the Friday Night Fights card next week. He trained at the gym I trained for during my freshman year at college. He was really cool and was always willing to give you tips on improving.
I Personally know and keep in touch with, Dorin Spivey. I personally know, and was trained by Joey Gamche Sr. for a short time, when I lived in Maine. Other than them, I don't really have a personal relationship with any other fighters. Off subject, I have Mickey Ward, and Gatti signed gloves. Very valuable to me.
Diego Corales - were good friends, boxed together at Sac PAL Tony Lopez Loreto Garza Vinny Pazienza Ray Lovato Jorge Paez Edwin Rosario Tim Brooks Rocky Lockridge John John Molina
I've me Sharif Bogere and Antonio Escalante. I met Escalante on 7/26/09 after his fight with Locke on FNF, and I met Bogere on 2/26/10 after his fight with Jose Hernandez on FNF as well.
Boxers I have met: Fernando Vargas David Diaz BJ Flores Angel Hernandez Acelino Freitas Angel Manfredy Cedric Agnew Daniel Zaragoza - Married my dad's first cousin aka my aunt. Have spent a lot of time with him in Mexico. I use to train at his brother's gym (Agustin Zaragoza) who won a bronze medal as a middleweight in the 68 Olympic games. I was very young and really did not know who he was but I was at a family party where Humberto "Chuiquita" Gonzalez was in attendance.
Lived in Las Vegas, a ton. training at the boxing gym in Vegas: winky wright, jameel McCline, Sam peters, Derrick Harmon (he worked there) Augie Sanchez, John Ruiz, Carl Cockerham (trained with him quite a bit). at boxing gym in Oxnard: Brian Villoria training at 24 hour fitness on trop and Decatur: Mayweather, Rahman, Ishe Smith (my least favorite of all of them, kind of a douche who thought he was too cool to even say hi.) I have to say Jameel was the nicest, and Viloria was great too. Really nice guy who spent the time to chat for a few minutes even in the middle of his training. Unfortunately the only one I got a picture with was Viloria, because I didn't usually have my camera at the gyms when I was working out, just happened to walk in at Oxnard one day and he was there. This content is protected Believe it or not, I asked Viloria how much he walked around at here and he said 120, and I was 130, just a huge difference in size. Coolest story: At the premier of Unleashed by Jet Li at the Orleans Casino, I am standing in line with my sparring partner, and we still have our boxing shoes on. Floyd is in front of us with his posse and I say, it's Floyd! I had talked to him before at the 24 hour fitness when he was playing basketball, but this time, he came over to us, shook our hands, said what was up. Told us he was going to bust Gatti up. Then he sat behind us in the movies and we talked about martial arts, fighting, etc. A big huge bodybuilder in a tight shirt came in and Floyd's posse started making fun of him. "Help, I can't wipe my ass" because of the way he was holding his popcorn. He turned around, saw Floyd, and just sat down without saying a word. Also ran into him at the Walmart on Charleston and Decatur there, where he was buying a whole lot of championship belts for his kids, lotion, and condoms. He looked at the tabloid and said, "Two headed alien shot by farmer? This **** never happens in the ghetto." Unfortunately the boxing figure I always saw at the gym was Leonard Ellerbe, ugh. He checked me out in the locker room at the gym there on Trop and Decatur, you can tell he liked small athletic guys.
just met shane two weeks ago on a flight from LA to Vegas... took my pic with him.. i'd post it but don't know how... Also met Tyson at Trader Joe's Kevin Kelly at an Italian restaurant Fernando Vergas after Marquez v Diaz 2
Oh I forgot ! This is embarassing. My wife's family owned a circus and for a time their business partner was Jorge Piaz, so I was actually like living in a trailer next to him for a while. I just didn't think of him as a boxer at that point, just some clown. I never met Mike Tyson but one of my old girlfriends dated him after we were finished. Freaking Las Vegas.
