He does not have much power and he has a weight class problem. However I do like him and wish him the best.
Was outclassed by Jose Benavidez in a sparring session pretty badly. Yeah it was sparring, but both looked like they were trying and Porter was taking clean hard flush shots willingly. The vid was taken down as a special request from Porter's camp.
Porter's like a poor man's version of Berto, but less hand speed and less power. He doesn't know what defense is. He's faced subpar competition and he's just relied on his offense to overwhelm guys. As soon as he steps up with anyone with decent countering skills, he'll lose, and pretty badly. There is no slickness in his game. He's way too offensive minded and he'll pay for it when he steps up in comp. If i'm not mistaken, he went life and death with some guy in his last fight or so.
Every fight of his that I've seen, he's looked pretty good. I'd like to see him step it up a couple notches, against maybe D-Hop, Lovemore N'dou, Malignaggi or maybe a puncher like Lucas Matthysse.
He is decent and an amazing prospect. I wish him the best, but he has a ways to go. I have seen him shut down and worn out by a few garbage dudes, but no shame in that. He is growing and has a great future.
He impressed me in his last outing , thats all i can really say at this point , at 17 & 0 its gonna be 12 months maybe longer before we see him get a decent step in class i would expect ............. Who promotes him ????
