Zab Judah Omar Sheika Roy Jones Jose Torres (Took a pic with him he was blasted but friendly as hell ) Hector Comacho
Jermain Taylor, went to a party that he and Joe Johnson (from the ATL Hawks) were throwing at a waterpark in North Little Rock. JT was as nice and down to earth as he could possibly be. Joe Johnson was another story.
Mike Tyson Daniel Jacobs Marcos Maidana Sergio Martinez Richard Steele -- people prolly remember him as a ref. But I heard he used to box. Anyway, I used to work at a CVS in Las Vegas and he was a patient of mine. Wed always talk when he came in. One day he surprised me with 2 free tickets to the 3rd Corrales-Casamayor fight. That was cool. He later autographed the tickets for me. Cool experience.
met jt in vegas before the second hopkins fight. very sweet and kind. broke my heart to see him koed by kp, froch and abraham. he treated me like family so when i saw him lose or even get hit, it felt like they were messing with my family. use to train at king's gym while andre ward would train there when he was still a contender. also a real nice guy, and great role model for kids. he changed in the same room as everyone else, greeted every one before they greeted him whether they were a real fighter or just someone working to get in shape like me. always encouraged kids to work hard, and to put their academics first before boxing so they have a back up plan, and he hated hearing curse words from kids. even if it's something mild like ass. told the kids he'd prefer them say oh my gosh rather than oh my god. i've also seen donaire there a few times and he's also a true gentleman, and very approachable and talkative. met pac a few times and he's very nice. nothing phony about him, what you see on tv is what you get in person. we had a long conversation about music (told him i'm a bassist and keyboardist but teaching music in schools) this was before the world knew he sing so he just said he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar because it keeps him relaxed met him in sf bay area once and twice in las vegas. met mosley and he was extremely friendly and easy going. saw him on vacation in tahoe where he was doing a little r&r but still took time out to talk and take pics or sign autographs. met vargas in sf california, and was a complete dick. racist son of a *****. hopefully, he gets ktfo in this comeback he's making.
met Zab Judah's father. Fernando Vargas Nonito Donaire the filipino guy who got put in the hospital by Katsidis.. Rodel Mayol at the hard rock..I think. Oliver McCall...in the ****in' men's bathroom. don't ask about that one.
was zab's father shadow boxing with a bottle of water in his hands like how he gives instructions to his son? was mccall getting high in the bathroom or crying?
In order.. Erik Morales- Met him when he fought Kevin Kelley here in El Paso at my boxing gym. Autograph reads "Para Chris, es un amigo, Erik Morales. I got a picture with his father staring into the camera while holding a conversation. Trevor Whittman- Trained with him for a few years when I visited my Dad a few times a year in Denver. First met in 2000, and had a few amateur fights over the next few years. Very nice man, a good role model at that time in my life. A good amateur in his day, fought Corey Spinks a couple of times.. This man truly doesn't get the credit he deserves. I think because he is so young. Verno Phillips- Had just started working with Trevor around 2000.. Very nice man. Won his world title, but had it taken away by Paul Williams shortly after. Fernie Morlaes Sr.- The best boxer outta El Paso.. Lost a narrow decision for a world title in the 80's.. Hung around the gym. Hector Camacho- Watched him train for his rematch with Duran in Denver back in 2000.. Met him through Trevor. Very nice man, jogged forwards, sideways, and backwards on the treadmill, and sang off key to Hip Hop and Reggaeton. Antonio Escalante- I trained at San Juan Rec Center from about 1999-2002, we were on different teams but trained side by side. He is a few years older and was always way more advanced, so no sparring. Caesar Lopez- Another fighter from El Paso, didn't quite make it. An excellent amateur.. We both worked with "Flash" (Miguel Estrada) for a while. Rene Armijo- Was on DLH's version of The Contender series. He is now a small time promoter here in EP. Ron Lyle- Trained in the basement of The Red Shield Rec Center in Denver from 2005-2006. This guy is huge for being 70 years old.. Looks somewhat muscular too. There may be more, but I think that is all. All fighters/trainers were very kind. I spent the most time with Trevor, but was also close with Armijo and Lyle.
No he was taking a ****. Well in Nevada, once you get your gloves on, you are followed by a red coat everywhere. So in walks McCall going in to take a **** in the Orleans Bathroom. Had to be helped by a NSAC guy. Everyone inside the bathroom was like WTF!!! Went to wash my hands and said, "hey good luck" after he was done doing his business. lol at him crying and on cocaine. Dude is a genuine bad ass in the ring. Born to kill fighter.
Wilfredo Benitez he lived by my house and used to run at the same track i did. We talked all the time he loved to talk about the glory days. Felix trinidad and his father, when i worked at the airport i saw him all the time cool guy to talk to easy going. Miguel Cotto, same as tito he was easy to talk to, all my friends thought differently and thought he was stuck up and arrogant but he wasnt like that with me. Jose Carita Lopez, ex flyweight champ we used to train at the same gym and got to spar with him a few times. Miguel Jimenez, olympic boxer and super middleweight contender was also at the same gym never made it though. Macho Camacho that mother ****er is crazy as hell but in a funny way, loves cocaine and loves to party. And a bunch of other that are not that well known. :hat
