:good Agreed ths has become a regular thing hear on ESB:-( But he wins this Welter fantasy matchup, Cotto gets a hit a little too much for the Pinpoint accuracy of Chavez.

He is my favorite current fighter...but you have to get real mate this is a legend we are talking about.

Any size difference does not make up for the gulf in class and durability.

So Leonard will beat Haye because Leonard is a legend? Chavez is a good fighter below 147, Cotto will beat him at welter weight. :good

    Dont get silly...absolutely ridiculous comparison.

Chavez was damn near unbeatable only 7 pounds south...As I said the gulf in ability and class is clear.

I dont really see a bit of size making that much of a difference.

Chavez is a great fighter below 147...even at 147 he is still pretty good and the right fighter with the right style and attributes he can certainly beat.

My first instinct is to pick Cotto, the bigger man who did much better work above 140. But then, look at who Chavez was facing and what stage he was in his career.

Although Chavez never really did anything above 140, keep in mind that he was facing PERNELL WHITAKER, and later Oscar De La Hoya (when Chavez was 36) in these WW title bouts. I could see Chavez, despite being undersized at WW, winning a title against some good fighters, particularly the Chavez of the early 90s who was fighting at 140.

I wouldn't be overly surprised to see Chavez pull this off against Cotto.

One thing is for sure that this fight would be competitive at 147..while it would be a massacre at 140.

Chavez wins at 140 against cotto and most if not all agree. Whats the point in creating a thread on a subject everyone agrees on. Its like creating a thread asking if Haye vs Harrison was an entertaining fight. Not a chavez hater

you gotta be slick to run....i mean beat chavez, cotto gets stopped late in the fight, even at welter....

cotto is strong, but he is not a huge welterweight....margo, hearns and pwill are huge welters, cottos just a solid dude....

Even though 147 was not Chavez' prime weight, Cotto is not nearly skilled or tough enough to hang with Chavez.

    :deal

Plus I don't think Cotto has the stamina or the toughness to endure 12 grueling rounds against a fighter like Chavez.

Chavez is good at lower weights but he is not impressive at 147, so Chavez is not great at 147. Cotto wins this.
