Thanks I love Trinidad and seeing him go to work. It's all fun and games until Mayorga started feeling the effect from those lethal bodyshots.
Tito was the man. But Mayorga was bloated for this fight. He was fighting at 147 less than a year before the fight and fought Trinidad around 158.
Because he beat Forrest when he was a hungry 147lber, He was actively dealing with a **** case in the leadup to the Trinidad fight and took the fight at middleweight. Mayorga was breathing heavy before the middle rounds had passed in this fight. Not quite the same Mayorga that Forrest had to fight. Forrest would have beat this version too. IMO.
I remember after this fight people started pumpin Tito up to be the best fighter again. Then Winky Beat that azz! :bbb
He was just in incomparably better shape. 147 Mayorga has some good speed, used the ring, moved his head, threw with torque, could fight all 12 and had dangerous energy. The middleweight Mayorga was slower, threw with a stiff back (many cases borderline arm punches), caught punches with his face, and gassed early. I think Forrest would have outboxed the hell outta this Mayorga. That being said, while Mayorga wasnt at his best, Trinidad was coming off like a 2 year layoff and wasnt at his best himself so Im not taking anything away from Tito. I just think this is a bad fight to gauge why Forrest couldnt beat Ricardo.
guys this is still an excellent win middle wasn't the prime weight for either fighter Trinidad was just the Better man
Great fight tito got my hopes up thought he was back and then he goes on to lose to winky wright.... :hat
