That is the myth that these ppl has created, like the Cuban National team is in hibernation and only comes out for the Olympics, they all win when they are teens, and more of them are defecting younger, we are going to c a lot of Cubans (Boxing and Baseball) competing for years to come.

Oh yes he was but sadly he didn't had time to show it , he had only one olimpic gold by the time he died ( Barcelona 92 ) but I heard stories of how many of the great boxers of team Cuba came to him for advice and a bit of coaching on the side , they also loved sparring with him because they always learned something new from Balado ( R.I.P ) , he died way too young but he's still remembered with great affection , he was a great H.W , a KO artist like Savon and Stevenson but he moved like a Featherweight , very agil . What a loss for Cuban boxing , when he died the Cuban Heavy Weight tradition ( Stevenson, Milian , etc I think died with him , we didn't have a decent heavy weight until Solis. Peace.

You see , you are wrong again , it seems that hate doesnt let you think straight , Savon won his first Olympic gold at 24 but he won his first WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP when he was just 18 year old , in Stevenson case your lack of boxing history shows too , lei me tell you that Stevenson was what is called a
" Late Bloomer " , in other words , it means somebody who started relatively late at something or somebody who achieved his/her goal late down the road , and Stevenson is the perfect example , not many people know that Stevenson used to get beaten a lot at the beggining of his boxing career , he almost gave up boxing because of this, all the trainers of Team Cuba were about to desist on Stevenson when one Russian trainer ( I forgot his name ) asked to be asigned to him , the Russian asked for 2 years so he could work on Stevenson
he recognized as well as the cubans that Stevenson had some flaws but he also saw his tremendous punching power, so as Sagarra said in the documental about Stevenson's life ,trough hard training and perseverance they decided to get rid of his mistakes and concentratated on his power , after around 2 and a half year Stevenson was ready , his last international lost was to Dwain Bobick in the Panam Games in 1970 ( I think was the year ) and he had his revenge at the Olympics , btw from this comes the legend that the Russians touhgt the cubans how to box ( all they did was give us the money to build the Gyms , the teachers were Cuban ) , later on when Stevenson became a Hero of the Revolution his losing record was doctored , he became Castro's favorite Boxer, Peace.

Savón along with Stevenson, were Cuba's biggest waste of talent! Those two would have ended up with hall of fame careers but chose to stay as amateurs for their whole lives! :-(

    Savón's and Stevenson's right hand was " scary " !!! :good

Sad story and a no doubt a massive waste of talent. Would like to see his fight with Savon. I will do my homework on Balado now. Thanks for bringing him up.

He was just 6"1" not tall at all

And how can savon and stevenson be a waste of talent when they got to travel the whole world win big medals for their country. And live wonderful lives in their native country where they are heroes and have everything they need given to them.

    :hat

No way at least not from me. As i was reading thru this thread i was gonna mention him but you beat me to it... I heard whan Savon and Bolado were on the same team that Bolado was at least Savons equal.... I believe he died in a Car accident.

Too bad we couldnt have traded Jorge Gonzalez for Savon,Bolado,Stevenson.. I think Gonzalez actually regressed when he turned pro, he beat Bowe,Lewis (and a couple other impressive names in the Amatuers). He was making some noise early in his career (and talked a great game). Bigt thinks were expected from Gonzalez and LH Ramon Garabey... I remember some promoter saying Garabey will be ready for Roy Jones by his 10th fight.

Garfios I think you're wrong here , R.B never lost a fight by KO , he had a granite chin , even when he was a teenager , he had some loses but never by KO. Don't believe what a lot of people write in these threads , His chin combined with his oustanding boxing skills ( even when he was a teen ) made extremely difficult to KO him , he fought everybody ( Savon , Espinosa, Lemus, etc ) and always won . Peace.

Listen I won't argue with you , Balado WAS TALLER than Solis , Balado wasn't 6/1 as you say , he was 6/3 and everybody in Cuba ( boxing fans ) know this. He wasn't "Stoky" as you called him but he had a big rear ( they used to call him , behind his back I presume , " El culon " , Stevenson was already retired when Balado died and Savon was 91kg , I remember they were thinking of making Savon a super Heavy but at the end there was no need for it , at the time there was a kid ( Martinez Fizz ) that was begining to make some noise , sadly it only lasted a short time because he got seriously injured during a fight . Peace .
