I ask this because I was thinking about this today Now I am a big time JMM fan actually became one by watching his first Manny fight, I was a giant Manny fan back then but JMM's heart and determination to get up 3 times made me a fan I feel like many others feel that JMM has Manny timed and figured out and is maybe the guy who is best prepared to solve the Manny puzzle right now. He is also the last guy to really give him a dog fight over 12 rounds But today I was thinking is he too old and worn out to pull it off I mean Erik Morales beat Manny in the first fight in a battle that he seemed to win by being a little more strategic In the second fight he seemed to have Manny figured out like many say JMM does now. But the Barrera wars and the first Manny fight seemed to take a physical toll that had shown in the Raheem fight In the second Manny fight he fought a great fight but ultimately his body could not do what his brain new what to do. He had Manny timed but his legs couldnt carry him to victory as his corner had to ice his thighs between rounds something that had the commentators baffled So my question is will this happen to JMM in a 3rd fight? Now I havent watched the Diaz fight in maybe a year so my recollection is a bit cloudy but i remember him in the early rounds being very troubled and at the time of the KO I think he was behind. In some of the early rounds he went to the ropes and corner and appeared like he could have gone down. In that Katsidis fight Katsidis was all over him and even dropped him, JMM got up but was in danger for a little while. He was in a real dog fight until the end Like the last few fight have had me nervous cause he has been going down in his fights and in tough fights with sluggers that he was expect to box circles around So these early round struggles against guys slower than Manny who hit softer than Manny and are not as explosive make me curious of what JMM has left Now I dont doubt that JMM has Manny timed and figured out but will his body carry him to victory or will it let him down like Morales Is this a fair assessment? Do you think these fights are a good measuring stick?
Yes its a very fair measuring stick , its the only one really , if your referring to Marquez Diaz 1 , Marquez was behind on 2 of the 3 scorecards and the 3rd was level , he was being bullied by Diaz , and in parts of the Casa and Katsidis fight he was too . But the precision of his shots and his superb timing took care of them two . You cannot compare these fighters to the men who shared a ring at FW and SFW , they are just not the same athletes , regardless of what people think Pacquiao looks to be fighting at a slower pace , but packing a lot more because he is now fighting at or around his true weight class . Which incidentally is a much much higher pace than his peers @47 and 54 fight at . Marquez is a slower stronger LW now and has well and truly grown in to the weight , a) i dont see him taking Pacquiao's power and b) @47 dont see him withstanding Manny's pace either !!!! I think he gets stopped inside 8 in a beat down from hell :deal
Marquez has changed his stlye dramatically. Ive got his career set and until after his fight with Chris John he was such a tactical fighter, he was very boring to watch often.
yeah a bunch of his old fight like Chris John or Robbie Peden were boring but know i never get bored watching a Marquez fight he is allways goin to war and letting his hands go
I was always of the opinion Pacquiao forced the change in Marquez , it is a clear change of style its not even close to the way he used to fight , he is so offensive nowadays that you wouldnt recognise like you say even the guy who fought Chris John !!!! I didnt know who Marquez was until he fought Pacquiao and was ultra impressed , as you do i went back to some of his big fights and observed and was like , what the **** is this , this aint even the same guy !!! I think the Pacquiao fights took him to the next level offensively , and really showed him what he's got in that arsenal !! looks like it stuck from there on in !!
maybe but marquez does should not have the gutts to tell how much his share is because he might be fighting just for a good payday ...
Google pictures of Morales at the weigh in for the second fight. Morales stands at 5'8" and was getting older. Obvously its harder to cut weight when you are older. Not to mention a SFW. He asked for a 135 lb fight instead. Of course Pacs team would not allow it. Since Morales was coming off the Raheem loss he didnt have much of a bargaining chip so he took it. He looked like a skeleton at the weigh in. The reason he lost that fight was because his legs were obviously gone from making the weight. Also Roach was very smart and made Pac go to the body which amplified that effect. Isnt it funny that Morales was actually beating Pac again the first few rounds until his legs started going? If Manny had trully gotten better why wasnt he winning those early rounds where Morales was still somewhat fresh? I still see JMM giving Pac hell. The aging of course could kick in. Right now he looks very damn good. He has lost a step but not much. The difference why JMM can deal with PAc is because he always circles away from the left hand and he uses excellent head and body movement. he does not try to block his punchse. he goes underneath them. Which just throws Pac off balance and with JMM's superb timing thats the best time to hit him and usually throw him even more off balance. Let all these fools say its a diff game at 147. Pac still comes into his fights at 148 or 149. Last time they fought he came in at 147. Not much of a size difference to me. 1 or 2 pounds top. JMM will also come into the ring at about 145 3 pounds heavier than he did the 2nd fight. As you can see all this new size difference is crap. If anything Pacs speed has gone down a bit as he went up. That might be the bigger difference.
He stated he did it to get the big money fights. The Jandaeng and Jaca fight is where he started using more offense. He got sick of not being praised like MAB and EM who are offensive fighters so he changed it and it obviously worked. To me the Jandaeng fight is still one of his best offensive performances. The uppercut combinations thrown there are out of this world. I think at one point he throws one from like 6 feet out.
Could you see the more aggressive Marquez and the sudden KO roll with Diaz Katsidis and Casa continue if he hits manny with that same uppercut flush do you think its possible
