Both can handle shots pretty well and Donaire should take this, but if he decides to go toe to toe, which I think he will at some point, he will give Montiel bigger chances to floor him, but Donaire has the faster hands and better boxing so he should avoid alot of Montiels shots. But all it takes is one shot and the fight can fall in Montiel's favor. He has been outboxed before, but it was by the slimmest of margins by either a southpaw or a bigger fighter. Donaire is both these things. Because both carry alot of power in their gloves it can go either way or the fight can have alot of back and forth action like the Khan-Maidana fight which I think will happen. Donaire will dominate, get tired or bored, and then Montiel will come on. Can't wait for this fight.
donaire is actually the one that has been moving up in weight and should he win will move up even more
Not entirely true, Donaire moved all the way down from bantamweight to pick up the flyweight belt and now he's back up after a couple of years. Given his size it's really hard to believe he could make 112, he looked like a featherweight vs. Sidorenko.
anything's possible. i highly doubt it though. donaire will be too fast on his feet and movement for montiel to time him with a perfectly placed punch ala sergio.
montiel isnt technically sound. he should be extremely easy to beat for someone like donaire. nonito can box his way to a victory. i dont like montiel's footwork or his guard. i especially hate the way he throws his jab. what the **** is that?
Unconventional doesn't mean unimpressive, Montiel is no textbook boxer but ripped apart textbook boxers with ease in his great career. True, Donaire is the better boxer and techically more sound, that's why I asked if Kochulito can pull a KO in your opinion, which seems like his only realistic chance. But to say extremely easy to beat is a serious mistake. He's unpredictable, generates power from nowhere and his timing is superb which makes counterpunchers feel uncomfortable.
you're right. "extremely" was poorly chosen. "relatively" is much better. nonito has a longer reach and better movement. he is also faster and packs a punch. this fight is his to lose. he shouldnt exchange with montiel. theres no need. i still think montiel has a chance. he has heavy hands and is durable. he s also unconventional. he seems hard to time as there's no real rhythm in the way he fights. im rooting for montiel. i just wouldnt bet on him.
donaire can be hit. watch the concepcion fight. pound for pound, montiel is a harder hitter than maravilla problem is donaire has a big punch himself and can move on his feet, rangy, intelligent
