I did see Joe Louis riding on the back of Yvonne Craig's 'Bat Cycle' in Las Vegas. That is the truth,,,,,,,right down 'The Strip' I put the fight into the computer. Rounds; 1...Joe Louis 2...Larry Holmes 3...Joe Louis 4...Larry Holmes 5...Larry Holmes 6...Even 7...Larry Holmes 8...Larry Holmes 9...Joe Louis 10.Joe Louis (Louis' best round, as he staggers Holmes) 11.Even 12.Larry Holmes (Holmes best round, as scores a flash knock-down) 13.Larry Holmes 14.Joe Louis (Louis goes all-out for a knock-out, and shakes Holmes, but cannot put him down) 15.Larry Holmes (Holmes scores hard punches over an exhausted Louis) Larry Holmes 8-5-2
No Hate game - just saying it how I see it - Holmes didn't have a massive size advantage - what, an inch in height and maybe 10 pounds of flab on him - Holmes always had that spare tire around his hips :huh - longer?? A better boxer? Thats a matter of opinion - to me Joe Louis was a better boxer and executed better in everything he did - I'd say Larry had the proven better chin - but then lots of people had better chins than Louis and still got sparked by him - Louis was not slow of foot either - are you just watching film of Louis post world war II?? check the films of him in his prime - he was never a twinkle toes no but he never really needed to be because he was such a good boxer and was so economical - running around a ring doesn't say a lot if you're only doing so you don't get sparked - I've seen Larry outboxed on a number of occassions by fighter who I wouldn't class as good as Larry so it wasn't like he was one of the top top boxers of all time
A prime Holmes did not have that extra "spare tire" around his hips, he was in very good condition with very little flab. When he was at his best, nobody outboxed him. Sure Carl Williams was outboxing a 35 nearly 36 year old Larry Holmes in 1985, but at 35/36 Joe Louis was hardly looking his best either. Film shows that Joe Louis did not like movers, and a prime Holmes had very good footwork, the best jab of all time, and a great chin. This would make life very difficult for Louis, who would have difficulty catching Holmes. He might get close to him every now and then, but it's not like Larry was helpless on the inside. Some of his best moments came when he was fighting on the inside. No spare tire here in 1979 This content is protected
Louis shows Larry what a right hand + excellent finishing skills from the greatest combo power puncher can do to a sagging left hand...Prime Louis finishes Prime Larry more efficiently than Tyson.....Louis by KO in 2-8
i think homes would be ahead but louis scores a late stoppage win , louis was perhaps one of the best finisher's ever
