This is a tough fight to call. BJ has better hands, and is probably a better grappler even with the weight difference. The questions are: Can he finish Diaz? What happens over the course of 25 minutes if he can't? Diaz' endurance is a big factor here. If he can use his size to hold Penn against the cage, he may be able to sap BJ of his strength. Florian attempted to this, but he is not as big a Diaz. If Diaz cant' hold BJ to the cage, Penn will be better at every aspect of the fight unless he runs out of steam. I think Penn is a better striker than Noons, and would win this fight by tko. I do understand if people think otherwise.
That means **** all because I heard Diaz deserved the decision + he`s a better, more experienced fighter now. Your boy Belfort beat Wanderlei who beat Sakuraba who beat Belfort, styles make fights, especially when its a close match on ability between 2 elites.
He doesnt have better boxing than Diaz IMO & is not as good as Diaz when fighting from the bottom... he is better from the top position tho, the stamina goes to Diaz also, fkn guy never lets up & that = bad for Penn.
He has much better boxing than Diaz, Diaz is wide, slow and sloppy. A guy like Penn would counter the **** out of him. And how can you justify saying Penn isn't better from the bottom than Diaz? Off Penn's performances against GSP and Hughes? Close your eyes and dream up how Diaz would do underneath GSP ok :good The second fight Penn was completely dominated, but in the first fight and against Hughes Penn was amazing working off his back and completely neutralizing those bigger, stronger Welterweights. And Diaz would not apply pressure that would bother Penn, Penn has the better wreslting and would outbox him. Diaz is not physically imposing enough to wear Penn down like GSP did, and not NEARLY as quick as Edgar to outpoint Penn. This fight is a clear victory for Penn. Horrible style matchup for Diaz.
diaz would take this because of his high workrate and unrelenting style. diaz has good stand up and underrated ground game. at this stage of penn's career, i dont think he can go the full 5 rounds without gassing out.. but i voted penn for sentimental reasons.
No. A) he has lost more of his big fights then he's won B) He has some significant weaknesses and vunlerabilities C) It's bull**** that he is somewhat of a "different" fighter now, then he was in UFC. He still looks exactly the same, does the same ****. D) He has NEVER beat a fighter who's even close to elite in their weightclass.
I can't stand Diaz in the personality department and I've been a fan of Penn since the beginning but I'm gonna go with Diaz. Cardio in this one will be the key.
You heard? I saw the fight, sherk won the fight. He landed more and threw more punches. Lets not forget the difference of skills bj is fighting in the ufc and diaz fighting in strikeforce. He loss to edgar who beat sherk who beat diaz
Diaz has not fought in the class of Penn before. Can't really see any areas Nick has the advantage here. Imo the guys in the UFC at WW that Diaz has no chance against are GSP, Penn and Fitch.
Vice versa, he`s underrated actually & would likely beat every WW in the UFC in a 5 rd fight except for maybe GSP. Diaz has better boxing than Penn, BJ`s boxing is what is overrated if anything, Diaz`s long reach, accuracy & the way he goes from body to head is excellent... guys like Edgar, GSP & Pulver (1st fight) were outboxing Penn.... & Im a big Penn fan.... but Nick Diaz beats him IMO, Penn would be eating leather & looking for takedowns to survive in the 4th & 5th rds as Diaz just keeps coming at him testing his shape. Diaz is a stamina machine, tough as nails, excellent boxing & great ground game, bad match for Penn.
I will try watch the Sherk Diaz fight for myself when it goes if ever on youtube but your the only one Ive heard say Sherk won... forget that anyway, at least until Ive seen it myself then we can discuss it. What difference does it matter who beat who ?... you obviously must know it does not work like that. Diaz would beat the **** out of Sherk & Edgar right now, he`d beat BJ too.
