The thing is Pacquiao doesn't do what most every other fighter in the sport does to compete in his weight class come the weigh-in. He's not working anything off at 147, and could probably make 140 easier than most fighters make weight today. They constantly talk about the careful weight gain they always have to employ. Fighting a welterweight champion who has to work to make 147 for a title at a catch-weight, and conditioning to lose a few pounds to make a fair and natural weight like every other fighter, are two very different things.
if Pac can make 140 so easily then how does he have an advantage if the fight is at 147 instead of 140? Makes no difference really. If you are right and Pac is not hindered by making 140, then he has no extra advantage if the fight is at 147 instead of 140 1+1=2
He is restricted from gaining weight. He's not "hindered" perse, he's not fighting with some overbearing restriction on his training or conditioning, but he is not allowed the advantage of maximizing the weight gain which his body is much more able to do than Marquez's. He can make 140 easily and come in at a natural fighting weight without the strength, weight, and size advantage he could exploit at 147.
If you say he is restricted then it's akin to saying he is not at his best. Therefore it's the same principle as what people say for Pac vs Cotto, Oscar, or whatever.
JMM can't with-hold Pac's hard left straight punch. PLUS, Pac has with him his right power punch. No way to have the trilogy bout.
In that case then most fighters don't operate at their best because of the restriction of weight limits. I'm sure everyone would love to eat three meals a day and train for fitness only, but that doesn't happen and it's for a reason. Pacquiao engaging in that pattern is a luxury he can afford that is unique and not at all entitled. Oscar draining himself to an unnatural physical state (his own mistake) or Cotto having to go beyond the limits of an official weight class are different. I still give Pacquiao lots of credit for demolishing those guys the way he did, but asking a natural 140 pounder to make 140 pounds is simply a norm in boxing that does not compare with a situation where the fighter is unnaturally drained, especially when the other fighter (as Pac had before) is moving up.
If JMM fought Mayweather at welterweight (144 pounds), why should he fight Pac at junior welterweight? What is there to compare then? JMMorons will state that JMM is draining himself at 140 if he losses!!!!lol:
140 is a good compromise for both. JMM has no business at 147. Everyone knows it, you're delusional if you argue otherwise.
The Mayweather fight speaks for itself on why JMM should not be fighting at 144 or 147. Your reasoning is flawed.
I have two possibly conflicting feelings about the weight for this fight. 1. I don't think it makes a difference. JMM knows how big (or small, depending how you look at it) Pacquiao is and he hasn't really gotten any bigger since their last fight. JMM should not feel compelled to pack on extra weight if the fight were at 147, so they could both come in comfortably without having to drop any weight at all and fight at their natural weights. 2. Pacquiao should be able to make 140 with NO problem. I believe he was drained at 130 in the previous fight but 140 should be no issue whatsoever. Pac fights at WW, Marquez fights at LW - 140 is right in the middle.
pac hasn't made 140 or below since the hatton fight which was almost 2 years ago. that will actually be 2.5 years ago if this fight happens in Nov. pac will be at a disadvantage at 140 since he has to drain an additional 6 lbs. from his last weigh-in. pac isn't accustomed to draining himself anymore to make weight. the fight should therefore be at 147 or ppl will again accuse him of doing another catchweight fight if this fight is made bet. the jrWW and WW limit. even if this fight happens @147, there will only be about a 3 lb difference in their actual fighting weights anyway (148 vs. 145).
at least know wtf you are talking about http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/spo...garito-pacquiao-weighs-in-at-1446-pounds.html
It will be at 147. Pac is comfortable where he is, not having to cut and has never looked better. He is not going to compromise that for a fight he doesn't need and especially for JMM who's acted like a bitter little turd since their last fight.
ariza said they should fight at 140 and that is pac's most suitable fighting weight. roach chats so much bs so i dont believe anything he says anymore.
